Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD a good car?

Generally — the 4/5 user rating suggests you can feel reasonably confident if you want a heavy-duty truck that still leans hard into work-truck capability while offering a more polished cabin than earlier versions. The overview points to serious utility, with strong towing and payload numbers, plus a wide range of trims and body styles that let you tailor the truck to basic work use or more comfort-focused driving. With 32.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview also notes that this generation was associated with a long list of recalls, so you should treat maintenance history and recall completion as especially important when evaluating a used example. What should I look for when buying a used 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a thorough pre-purchase inspection so you can confirm the truck’s condition matches the listing. Pay close attention to signs of hard use, since this model is built for serious work and may have spent its life towing or hauling. It is also smart to verify that any recall work has been completed before you commit.

What is the 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD's resale value?

The current average of $37,802 sits slightly above last year's $37,494.

That small increase suggests the market has stayed fairly stable, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price trend can support resale confidence because it shows buyers are still willing to pay near current market levels for the right truck. If your example is clean, well maintained, and documented, you are in a better position to hold value than if it has visible wear or an unclear history.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 75.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want a heavy-duty truck with strong capability, a more polished cabin, and a market that still offers some deal opportunities. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare nearby years for a lower entry point, but the 2016 remains a sensible target when you want a balance of utility, comfort, and stable pricing.
