How much does the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 cost?

Prices have softened 9.89% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,415 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 a good car?

Generally — the 4.25/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction for this model year. Owners commonly praise its comfort, features, and smooth ride, and many also like the upscale Denali trim and thoughtful design touches. The truck’s broad appeal comes through in its mix of work-ready capability and a more premium feel, which makes it a fit if you want a full-size pickup that does more than basic hauling. With 27.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.25/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback also points to dependable everyday use for many drivers, with comfort and performance often described positively over time. At the same time, some owners report trouble-free ownership while others mention transmission and air-conditioning concerns, so reliability can vary by individual truck. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is manageable if you verify maintenance history and inspect carefully before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 GMC Sierra 1500?

At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on the transmission, since that’s a known concern for this generation, and pay close attention to how the truck shifts during a test drive. It also makes sense to focus on overall condition, because a clean-looking truck can still hide wear from hard use.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 GMC Sierra 1500?

This looks like a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting deep bargain-bin pricing.

• Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,415 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.89% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,499, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 GMC Sierra 1500's resale value?

The current average of $20,499 sits slightly below last year's $22,749.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you keep the truck in strong condition and maintain it well, you can help protect value against further depreciation. Trucks with broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction tend to stay easier to move when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.25/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.89% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.25/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $18,903, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $20,499 average.
• It offers a polished cabin with useful comfort and convenience features.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced buy, the 2016 is the stronger primary path because it combines a lower current price trend with solid owner satisfaction and decent deal availability. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in strong condition with the features you want.
