CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Ford Fusion

Summary
With 1,572 currently listed for sale and an average price of $9,083.00, 27.4% of 2016 Ford Fusions for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Ford Fusion 4.1 / 5 stars.
58.7% of 2016 Fusion models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Ford Fusion stands out as a midsize sedan that blends sharp styling, strong road manners, and a roomy cabin. Ford’s second-generation Fusion was overhauled for the 2013 model year, and by 2016 it still offered the qualities that made the car appealing in the first place: capable handling, plenty of space, and a broad range of engines and features. It was also available with all-wheel drive on the top two engines, which adds to its appeal for buyers who want a sedan that can handle foul weather with more confidence.
For 2016, the Fusion’s engine lineup included the 175-horsepower 2.5-liter Duratec, the turbocharged 1.5-liter EcoBoost with 181 hp, the 240-hp 2.0-liter EcoBoost Turbo, and hybrid powertrains rated at up to 188 hp. Most second-generation Fusions used a six-speed automatic transmission, while hybrid models used a continuously variable automatic transmission. Ford had also added a wide range of driver aids over time, and the best-equipped versions were 2019 and 2020 models, so the 2016 car sits a little earlier in that progression. Even so, it still benefits from the Fusion’s generous packaging, including 38.3 inches of rear legroom and a 16 cubic-foot trunk.
The 2016 Fusion is especially attractive to shoppers looking for a used sedan that feels more polished than its price might suggest. Owners commonly praise its smooth ride, comfort, reliability, and spacious interior, along with useful standard equipment. At the same time, it is not the most luxurious car in its class, and some drivers have noted minor design flaws, rearview camera issues, and limited acceleration in certain versions. For buyers who value style, comfort, and balanced everyday driving, though, the 2016 Ford Fusion remains a compelling choice.

Just unhappy with the malfunctioning rearview camera on our 2016 Ford fusion titanium.. Sounds like there should be a recall for our year of 2016 and others for the Ford fusion.

Consumer Report recommended it. Great price if it last the “life of the loan”. My wife now has the “big vehicle”, so I have the option to get a smaller vehicle.

That makes the Fusion a strong fit if you want a midsize sedan that feels polished, practical, and comfortable for everyday driving. With 27.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Ford Fusion reliable?
Owners rate it 4.1/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to reliability, with owners specifically calling out the car’s reliability and comfort in the same breath as its smooth ride. That kind of feedback suggests the Fusion can be a dependable used choice when it has been maintained well. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a car that has unresolved condition issues or model-specific wear that a careful inspection would catch.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Fusion?
At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus your inspection on overall condition, signs of past repairs, and whether the car’s equipment and driving behavior match the seller’s description.

What is the 2016 Ford Fusion's resale value?
The current average of $9,094 sits slightly below last year's $9,606.
That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay realistic on asking price. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. Strong condition and clean history will matter most when it comes time to resell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.1/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Ford Fusion or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.33% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.1/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $8,469, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $9,094 average.
- It offers a stylish, well-rounded family-sedan feel.
The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced buy, the 2016 is the stronger primary target because it combines a lower-than-last-year price trend with solid owner satisfaction and decent deal availability. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one in strong condition.
