Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Ford F-150 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2016 Ford F-150 stands out as a pickup that leans hard into luxury without abandoning its truck identity. Ford’s F-150 Limited is described as a genuine luxury vehicle in all but name, and it is presented as loaded with extras and tasteful trimmings. That combination gives it a more upscale feel than buyers might expect from a full-size, light-duty pickup.
What makes it especially appealing is the way those upscale touches are paired with a strong overall reputation. The summary calls it arguably the best full-size, light-duty pickup you can buy, which helps explain why it can look like a value despite a high price. For shoppers who want a truck that feels more refined than rugged, the 2016 Ford F-150 offers a distinctive blend of comfort, equipment, and prestige.
At the same time, the high price is part of the story, and it is worth keeping in mind for used buyers. The available owner feedback also points to comfort, power, and a smooth ride as recurring strengths, while noting that storage options can feel limited and that higher-mileage examples may be expensive.

First off, the waffles color (a beautiful, unique shade) really makes this truck stand out. It turns heads everywhere I go. The leather interior gives it a premium feel, and the sunroof adds an open, airy vibe, especially on sunny drives. This truck is packed with features—from the tech to the comfort, it has everything you could want. Whether it’s advanced infotainment, driver assists, or the luxury finishes, it doesn’t miss. The engine is powerful and responsive, making highway merges and towing feel effortless.

Great value for the vehicle. High mileage but that is not an issue like it used to be.

The truck spent the first 5 years in Michigan. There was new undercoating over the entire bottom of vehicle. In the cracks of the leaf springs and other crevices I could see crusty rust. Didn’t even take it for a drive.

Is the 2016 Ford F-150 a good car?
Yes — the 4.62/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.5/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.
Drivers repeatedly praise the comfort, power, smooth ride, and spacious interior. The turbo V6 and broad feature set also come up often, which fits a truck that is positioned as both a work tool and a more upscale daily driver.
The overview frames this model year as a pickup that leans into luxury without giving up its truck identity, so it makes the most sense if you want refinement along with capability. With 24.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is also enough market activity to keep shopping practical.
Is the 2016 Ford F-150 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a truck that many drivers find dependable, with comfort and power showing up alongside praise for the overall ownership experience. The expert evaluation also describes the F-150 as better than average for reliability.
The performance write-up reinforces that impression by describing the truck as confident, composed, and capable in everyday driving. Ford also includes free 911 Assist through Sync, which adds a useful ownership perk without a monthly subscription.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher-mileage examples may bring more maintenance exposure, so condition and service history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford F-150?
At 66.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on trucks with higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the truck’s equipment still works as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Limited trim is presented as the luxury-focused version, with 22-inch wheels, satin-finish accents, Mojave leather, eucalyptus wood, and other upscale touches that separate it from the more basic XL and XLT models.
- Powertrain: The standard twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 makes 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque, and it is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and Sport driving mode.
- Safety package: Ford offers adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, plus blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and a lane-keeping system. Some of these features are available rather than standard.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 brings a capacitive touch display with swipe capability, improved voice recognition, Siri compatibility, Wi-Fi software updates, and available navigation with pinch-to-zoom.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA says this truck should return 17 mpg combined, and the test loop returned 16.7 mpg.
Which 2016 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?
The 2016 Ford F-150 is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Limited.
Here's the short version:
- XL: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the F-150 lineup and do not need the upscale equipment found higher up.
- XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday comfort and convenience without pushing into luxury-truck pricing.
- Lariat: Choose this if you want a more polished cabin and a stronger premium feel while staying below the top-end trims.
- King Ranch: This trim suits you if you want a distinctive upscale personality and more of the premium-truck experience.
- Platinum: Pick this if you want a near-luxury truck with a more refined presentation and a richer feature mix.
- Limited: This is the flagship choice, and it is the one to buy if you want the most luxurious version of the truck with the richest materials and most attention to detail.
The safety package is available across the lineup, but some driver-assistance features are not standard on every trim.

If you find a listing below $18,914.16, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Ford F-150's resale value?
The current average of $18,910 sits slightly below last year's $20,236.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on market momentum alone.
Trucks with strong owner satisfaction often keep buyer interest longer, and this model year fits that pattern. Well-kept examples with desirable features should remain easier to move than rougher, higher-mileage trucks.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Ford F-150 safe?
The Ford F-150 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star rollover resistance ratings for both 2WD and 4WD models.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford includes Sync-based 911 Assist, which can automatically contact emergency responders if the airbags deploy and a paired device is in the vehicle. Available driver-assistance tech also includes adaptive cruise control with forward collision warning and brake support, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and a lane-keeping system.
One caveat is that the truck is not eligible for Top Safety Pick+ because it lacks automatic emergency braking. The lane-keeping and forward-collision systems also showed occasional false warnings during testing.
Should I buy a 2016 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 24.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 66.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.55% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2016 adds Sync 3 and Pro Trailer Backup Assist, making it a more tech-forward truck.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $17,807, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $18,910 average.
- It emphasizes aluminum construction and turbocharged power.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $21,697, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $18,910 average.
- It brings back the Raptor with serious off-road hardware and more aggressive performance.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, features, and broad market availability, the 2016 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 is the value play; if you want a more specialized performance truck, the 2017 is the step up to consider.
