Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owner feedback highlights a dependable-feeling truck with strong Duramax engine performance and a build quality that many buyers trust for hard use. The recurring praise for its heavy-duty capability and overall durability suggests you can count on it for demanding ownership, though used-truck wear still deserves attention. For long-term ownership, your biggest risk is buying a truck that has been worked hard without proper maintenance or inspection.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report so you can screen for accidents, title issues, and major repairs before you get too far into the process. Then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on the drivetrain, suspension, brakes, and any signs of heavy towing or work use. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records, since used heavy-duty trucks can vary widely in how they were treated.

That modest decline suggests the truck has softened a bit in the market, which can help you as a buyer today but may slightly temper resale upside if you plan to sell soon. Even so, the price movement is not dramatic, so a well-kept example should still hold reasonable appeal to future shoppers. Strong owner satisfaction helps support demand over time, especially for buyers looking for a capable heavy-duty truck.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.08% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $30,174, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $28,606 average.
• It adds an all-new diesel engine with stronger work-focused capability.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want a lower average price and strong owner satisfaction without stretching your budget. If you are willing to pay more for a newer work-focused setup and stronger diesel capability, the 2017 is the better secondary path.
