What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Cadillac CTS?

At 57.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on condition details that matter most in a luxury sedan: electronics, interior wear, and evidence of consistent maintenance.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Luxury trim adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, navigation, some safety tech, and 17-inch, 10-spoke wheels, while the Performance trim adds magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, and automatic parking assist. The Premium test car adds a fully digital, fully customizable instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, a 20-way power driver’s seat, and carbon-fiber inserts.
• Powertrain: The CTS is available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder, a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6, or a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 in the Vsport. It uses a new-for-2016 8-speed automatic transmission and can be had with rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: The standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. The CTS also includes 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor.
• Infotainment: CUE uses a large center touchscreen with customizable menus, Apple CarPlay, and access to phone, text, music, maps, and apps like Pandora and Spotify. The test car also featured a customizable, multicolored head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.0-liter model is described as a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder, but no MPG figure is stated.

Which 2016 Cadillac CTS trim should I buy?

The 2016 Cadillac CTS is offered in 4 trim levels: Standard, Luxury, Performance, Premium.

Here's the short version:

• Standard: This is the entry point if you want the CTS experience at the lowest cost, but it leaves out the extra comfort, tech, and safety upgrades found higher up the range.
• Luxury: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, navigation, some safety tech, and 17-inch, 10-spoke wheels.
• Performance: Choose this if you want the most meaningful chassis and parking upgrades, including magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, and automatic parking assist.
• Premium: This is the most fully equipped choice, adding the digital instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, a 20-way power driver’s seat, and carbon-fiber inserts.

The standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Cadillac CTS?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 242 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.69% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,884, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Cadillac CTS's resale value?

The current average of $12,884 sits slightly below last year's $13,808.

That softer pricing suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can make the CTS easier to purchase now than it was a year ago. For a future seller, that also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level.

Well-kept examples with desirable trims and strong feature content should hold up better than stripped or heavily worn cars. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Cadillac CTS safe?

The 2016 Cadillac CTS earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

It has a standard driver-awareness package that includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. It also comes with 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor, which adds useful visibility in tight parking situations.

The available safety tech is a strong part of the CTS’s appeal, especially if you want a luxury sedan with modern driver aids. The main caveat is that some of the more advanced features are tied to higher trims, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used listing.

Should I buy a 2016 Cadillac CTS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model is largely carried over with a few key updates, including more power and more tech.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,341, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $12,884 average.
• It gets the fundamentals right while feeling carefully executed and distinctly sporty.

The bottom line: If you want the newer, better-equipped version with stronger tech and a more current feel, the 2016 is the better target. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable giving up some updates, the 2015 is the value play.

How does the 2016 Cadillac CTS compare to the 2016 BMW 3 Series?

Our experts score the 2016 Cadillac CTS 8.3/10 and the 2016 BMW 3 Series 7.5/10.

The CTS brings the stronger overall expert score, a more powerful base engine, and a more upscale feature set at a higher average used price. The 3 Series is cheaper on the used market and has more listings, but the CTS offers the stronger mix of performance, technology, and luxury content.
