What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Cadillac CTS?

At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on how the cabin electronics, suspension, and braking feel in real-world use, since those are the areas that most affect ownership satisfaction in a luxury sedan like this.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car is the most stripped-down version, while the Luxury trim adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, navigation, some safety tech, and 17-inch, 10-spoke wheels. The Performance trim adds magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, and automatic parking assist. The Premium trim layers in the digital instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, a 20-way power driver’s seat, and carbon-fiber inserts, making it the best-value choice if you want the richest feature mix.
• Powertrain: You can choose among a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 285 lb-ft, or a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 in the Vsport with 420 hp and 430 lb-ft. The car uses an 8-speed automatic and is available with rear-wheel drive or AWD.
• Safety package: The standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. Standard safety equipment also includes 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor.
• Infotainment: CUE is the touchscreen system, and it includes Apple CarPlay, customizable menus, and access to phone, text, music, maps, and apps. The system also supports a head-up display on equipped models.
• Fuel efficiency: The 3.6-liter AWD test model is described as having adequate power and strong real-world drivability, but no MPG or MPGe figure is stated.

What is the 2016 Cadillac CTS's resale value?

The current average of $12,967 sits slightly below last year's $13,845.

That price movement suggests the CTS has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stays steady. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned to limit further value loss. The model’s mix of luxury features and strong owner satisfaction should help keep demand reasonably healthy.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Cadillac CTS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.34% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a more refined, tech-forward feel while largely carrying over the third-generation CTS formula.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,319, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $12,967 average.
• It gets the fundamentals exactly right and feels carefully executed.

The bottom line: If you want the newer, more tech-savvy version of the CTS, the 2016 is the better default choice. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2015 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one in strong condition.
