How much does the 2016 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 8.75% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 813 listings available, which suggests you have a solid pool of cars to compare.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — 5/5 is a strong user rating for this model year. Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, luxurious comfort, and extensive range of features, and many also highlight the smooth driving experience and M Sport suspension. If you want a midsize luxury sedan that balances daily comfort with a more engaging feel, the 2016 5 Series fits that use case well. With 34.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that many owners find dependable in everyday use, with praise centered on its smooth driving experience and strong overall ownership appeal. The same feedback also suggests that some examples can be more trouble-free than others, so condition and maintenance history matter. For used buyers, the long-term ownership risk is best managed by choosing a well-documented car and avoiding neglected examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

At 59.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, warning lights, and any evidence of deferred maintenance. Because this model can be complex, a clean service record and a careful condition check matter as much as mileage.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 813 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,097, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $12,147 sits slightly below last year's $13,312.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on how well the car is maintained and presented. Well-kept examples should stand out more clearly against the broader market, especially if they have strong service records and clean history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $17,030, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $12,147 average.
• It brings a full redesign with new engines and a lighter chassis.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2016 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and decent deal availability. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer redesign, the 2017 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritize the updated platform.
