How much does the 2016 BMW 5 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.80% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 854 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and conditions.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise the 2016 BMW 5 Series for its powerful performance, luxurious comfort, and extensive feature content, and many also highlight the M Sport suspension and smooth driving experience. The model fits especially well if you want a midsize luxury sedan that balances everyday comfort with real driving ability and a strong sense of occasion. With 35.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance of finding attractive pricing.

Is the 2016 BMW 5 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in daily use when properly maintained, with many owners describing the driving experience as smooth and trouble-free over time. The strongest reliability takeaway is that this is a complex luxury sedan, so long-term ownership risk is more about maintenance discipline than basic durability.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of uneven wear, then make sure the car drives cleanly and shifts smoothly. Because this model can be expensive to maintain, focus on overall condition and service history rather than just the asking price.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 BMW 5 Series?

This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 854 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.80% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $12,271, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 BMW 5 Series's resale value?

The current average of $12,426 sits slightly below last year's $13,477.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. For a future seller, that means your biggest protection is entering ownership with a well-bought car and keeping it in strong condition. A clean history and good maintenance records should matter more than mileage alone when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW 5 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.80% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $17,260, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $12,426 average.
• The redesign brings a fresh chassis, updated tech, and a more modern driving feel.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2016 if you want the lower entry price and are comfortable shopping carefully for condition and history. If you want the newer redesign and can stretch your budget, the 2017 is the better long-term upgrade; if price matters most, the 2016 is the smarter value play.
