At 51.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any damage was cosmetic or structural. Put inspection priority on signs of prior repair, uneven panel gaps, and any mechanical issues that could point to deferred maintenance. Focus on overall condition and service history, since premium-car repairs can become expensive if problems were ignored.

What is the 2016 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $14,357 sits slightly below last year's $15,177.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you keep the car in strong condition and maintain it well, you may be better positioned to recover value later. Demand should remain supported by the model’s strong owner satisfaction and premium appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,522, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $14,357 average.
• It emphasizes distinctive styling and strong driving character.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping environment, the 2016 is the stronger primary choice because it combines a lower current average price with solid owner satisfaction and decent deal availability. If your top priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the better secondary path.
