How much does the 2016 Acura MDX cost?

Prices have softened 4.65% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

With 1,022 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Acura MDX earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, effective safety features, spacious interior, advanced features, and overall performance. For you, that means this is a strong fit if you want a premium family vehicle that balances comfort with a more engaging driving character than many rivals.

The market also shows 34.5% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a reliable, dependable, and generally trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers saying they feel good about the MDX for the long term. The expert review also describes the MDX as having a strong reliability reputation and notes that it feels like it will last a good, long time.

The main caution for used buyers is that some owners have reported transmission-shifting concerns, so a thorough test drive and service-history review matter more than usual.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Acura MDX?

At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, and any evidence of drivetrain or transmission behavior that feels inconsistent on the road test.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is described as simple and plain, but the MDX still feels high-quality inside, and the Advance option package adds standout comfort features such as ventilated front seats and a more upscale equipment mix.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower, paired with a new 9-speed automatic transmission; SH-AWD is available, and the transmission changes are a key part of the 2016 update.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, and road-departure mitigation; blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert comes with the Technology or Advance Package.
• Infotainment: All models gain Siri Eyes Free, while the Technology Package adds navigation with real-time traffic reports, a premium sound system with HD Radio, and a solar-sensing climate control system; the Entertainment Package adds a rear-seat entertainment system and a 110-volt power outlet.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates SH-AWD models at 18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined; with the Advance Package and Idle Stop, ratings rise to 19 mpg city and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2016 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Acura MDX is offered in 1 trim level: MDX.

Here's the short version:

The MDX is best viewed as a package-based luxury SUV rather than a traditional trim ladder, so your decision comes down to which option packages you want. The Technology Package is the most useful step up for many shoppers because it adds navigation, real-time traffic, premium audio, and important driver-assistance features. If you want the most comfort-oriented setup, the Advance Package adds ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, remote engine start, and parking sensors. The Entertainment Package makes sense if you regularly carry rear passengers and want the rear-seat entertainment system.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that AcuraWatch Plus is available on any version of the MDX, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert requires the Technology or Advance Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Acura MDX?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,022 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.65% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,447, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Acura MDX's resale value?

The current average of $14,729 sits slightly below last year's $15,448.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper upside for a future seller. If you plan to own the MDX for a while, the softer pricing can make entry more attractive, especially if you find a clean example with the right equipment.

The model is still expected to retain a big chunk of its value over time, which supports resale strength relative to many rivals. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX safe?

The 2016 Acura MDX earns five-star ratings from NHTSA in every single assessment, along with a four-star rollover resistance rating. It also earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is included with the Technology or Advance Package, and those packages also add rain-sensing wipers.

Should I buy a 2016 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.65% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The year’s key update is the new 9-speed automatic transmission, which is one of the defining changes for 2016.

The bottom line: If you want a well-equipped luxury three-row SUV with strong safety, a comfortable ride, and broad owner approval, the 2016 MDX is still a compelling choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on clean, well-documented examples and compare them carefully against nearby model years before deciding.
