How much does the 2016 Acura MDX cost?

Prices have softened 5.52% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,020 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare on price and equipment.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Acura MDX earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, effective safety features, and overall performance. The spacious interior and advanced features also come through as recurring positives, especially if you want a family-friendly luxury SUV.

That lines up with the MDX’s broader appeal as a refined, comfortable, and athletic three-row SUV. It is aimed at you if you want a luxury crossover that balances everyday comfort with a more engaging driving feel.

With 35.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a strong-value example.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, trouble-free, and well suited to long-term use, with many drivers describing it as a great value for the money. The expert commentary also emphasizes that the MDX has historically been very reliable and that it exudes a sense of quality that suggests it will last a good, long time.

That said, the 2016 model year also brings a new transmission and Idle Stop technology, and those changes can affect day-to-day satisfaction. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the drivetrain and shifting behavior are acceptable before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Acura MDX?

At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with a complex option package. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the transmission behavior feels smooth in normal driving.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The MDX’s packaging strategy means you should pay close attention to which option package is fitted, since the cabin and feature set can change a lot from one example to another. Base versions are simpler, while higher packages add more comfort, convenience, and safety equipment.
• Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower, paired with a new 9-speed automatic transmission for 2016. Front-wheel drive is standard unless you choose SH-AWD, which adds all-wheel-drive capability and a twin-clutch rear differential.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is tied to the Technology or Advance Package.
• Infotainment: All models gain Siri Eyes Free compatibility. The Technology Package adds navigation with real-time traffic, a premium sound system with HD Radio, and a solar-sensing climate control system. The Entertainment Package adds a rear-seat entertainment system and a 110-volt power outlet.
• Fuel efficiency: The SH-AWD model is rated at 18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. With the Advance Package and Idle Stop, those figures improve to 19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined.

Which 2016 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Acura MDX is offered in 1 trim level: MDX.

Here's the short version:

The MDX is really a package-driven SUV, so the best choice depends on how much equipment you want rather than a long trim ladder. If you want the most straightforward buy, look for a well-equipped example with the features you care about most, since the available packages do most of the heavy lifting here.

The safety-package note matters here too: AcuraWatch Plus is available on any version of the MDX, while blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert requires the Technology or Advance Package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Acura MDX?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,020 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.52% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,446, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Acura MDX's resale value?

The current average of $14,468 sits slightly below last year's $15,313.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you should be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Acura MDX safe?

The 2016 Acura MDX earns five-star ratings from the federal government in every single assessment, accompanied by a four-star rollover resistance rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it top ratings across the board, plus an Advanced rating for frontal-impact avoidance, and the result is a Top Safety Pick rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch Plus adds adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist, and road-departure mitigation. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert is included only with the Technology or Advance Package, along with rain-sensing wipers.

Should I buy a 2016 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.52% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 model year stands out for its new 9-speed automatic transmission and the addition of AcuraWatch Plus.

The bottom line: If you want a refined, safety-focused luxury SUV and you find a clean example with the right package mix, the 2016 MDX is worth serious consideration. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2016’s lower average price and strong owner satisfaction make it a compelling starting point.
