What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Volkswagen Jetta?

At 52.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on this model year because condition can vary widely across listings. Focus on maintenance records, signs of bodywork, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Jetta S is the simplest version, while the SE adds a turbocharged engine and more comfort features. Higher trims add conveniences like heated front seats, leatherette seating, a sunroof, navigation, and more upscale audio and climate equipment.
• Powertrain: The SE uses a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine with 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, and it delivers smooth, confident acceleration. Fuel economy is rated at 25 mpg city/37 highway/30 combined.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitor, rear traffic alert, forward-collision warning, park-distance control, and rear-view camera. Some of these are available rather than standard.
• Infotainment: The SE with Connectivity includes a Premium VIII touchscreen, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, an SD card slot, AUX/in, and an iPod adapter. Car-Net connected services add remote and safety-oriented functions.
• Fuel efficiency: The 1.8-liter turbo is rated at 25 mpg city/37 highway/30 combined, and the diesel is rated at 31/46 with a manual or 31/45 with an automatic.

Which 2015 Volkswagen Jetta trim should I buy?

The 2015 Volkswagen Jetta is offered in 13 trim levels: S, SE, SE with Connectivity, SE with Connectivity and Navigation, 1.8T Sport, SEL, TDI, and GLI.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the simplest choice if you want the lowest entry point and basic equipment. It includes the core sedan essentials, and the Technology package adds a rear-view camera, push-button start, and a touchscreen with satellite radio.
• SE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the turbocharged engine, heated front seats, and more comfort and convenience features without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• SE with Connectivity: This is the sweet spot if you want the most balanced mix of tech and comfort. It adds leatherette seats, a sunroof, rear-view camera, and Car-Net connected services.
• SE with Connectivity and Navigation: Choose this if you want the SE with Connectivity equipment plus built-in navigation, keyless access with push-button start, fog lights, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
• 1.8T Sport: This is the pick if you want a more engaging setup, with a sport suspension, rear spoiler, navigation, fog lights, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
• SEL: This is the most upscale gas trim, adding two-tone sport seats, a full power driver’s seat, Fender audio, soft-touch dash, Homelink, and dual-zone climate control.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that blind-spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, forward-collision warning, park-distance control, and the rear-view camera are available features rather than universal standard equipment.

• Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 899 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.41% compared with last year.

What is the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta's resale value?

The current average of $8,017 sits slightly below last year's $8,215.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and service history rather than just model-year appeal. Well-kept examples should hold up better than neglected ones because shoppers can compare a lot of similar listings.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Volkswagen Jetta safe?

The 2015 Volkswagen Jetta earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ rating and five-star overall ratings from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in the side crash test and four-star ratings in both the frontal crash and rollover tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Jetta includes available blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning, and rear-view camera features, along with standard electronic stability control, 6 airbags, antilock brakes, electronic brake-pressure distribution, and hydraulic brake assist. The main caveat is that some of the helpful driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard.

Should I buy a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It blends strong diesel efficiency with smooth handling and broad daily-driver versatility.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $7,447, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $8,017 average.
• It feels unusually eager and fun to drive, with a spacious trunk.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $9,228, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $8,017 average.
• It brings a newer turbo engine and a more modern touchscreen.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and everyday versatility, the 2015 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2014 is the value play; if you want a newer-feeling setup and can spend more, the 2016 is the upgrade path.
