Summary
With 307 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,553.00, 28.0% of 2015 Volkswagen Beetles for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Volkswagen Beetle 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2015 Volkswagen Beetle stands out for its retro styling and the flexibility of its trim range, which lets buyers tailor the car to their needs without paying for features they do not want. It is also a car with personality: the design keeps the Beetle’s familiar look, while this year’s version is described as losing some of the cute and becoming a little more guy-friendly than in years past.
It does not give up on driving appeal, either. The 2015 Volkswagen Beetle offers three engine choices, including a new, more powerful TDI clean diesel that also improves fuel economy. That combination makes it appealing to shoppers who want style and efficiency in the same package. The main drawback is value, since it is not a bargain no matter which trim you choose.

Has the majority of mod cons for everyday driving. I think the car is good value for a reliable make and model. It does not however have navigation. Mini Cooper, Fiat 500 and Toyota Prius were the other cars considered.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Volkswagen Beetle?
At 47% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on condition, equipment operation, and signs of prior repair quality, since the market includes a sizable number of cars with accident history. If you are comparing multiple listings, the cleanest example with the right features is usually worth more than a cheaper car with uncertain history.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base 1.8T comes with heated leatherette seats, cruise control, telescoping steering, a multifunction leather-wrapped steering wheel, a rear spoiler, heated exterior mirrors, and 17-inch Turbine alloy wheels. The Classic trim stands out with Moonrock Silver Metallic, a black roof, 17-inch Heritage alloy wheels, and a unique checker-pattern interior. The R-Line 2.0T adds a more performance-oriented setup with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, 18-inch Twister alloy wheels, sport suspension, R-line bumpers, and a 3-pod instrument cluster. The TDI Clean Diesel includes a rear-view camera, touchscreen sound system, and keyless access with push-button start, while Premium 1.8T/TDI adds Fender audio, dual-zone climate control, leather seating with sport front seats, bi-xenon headlights, and touchscreen navigation.
- Powertrain: You can choose among a 1.8-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 170 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 210 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque, or a 2.0-liter TDI diesel with 150 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. The diesel is the efficiency play, with strong torque and improved fuel economy, while the R-Line is the more performance-focused option.
- Safety package: The Beetle includes multiple airbags, automatic rollover support, antilock brakes, electronic stability control, an intelligent crash-response system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. A rear-view camera is not standard, but it is available on higher trims, as is a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. VW Car-Net adds roadside assistance, manual emergency call, and automatic crash notifications.
- Infotainment: Sound and Navigation models include Bluetooth with audio streaming, a touchscreen navigation system with a 5-inch color display, and an SD memory-card reader. The screen is small and sits a bit far from the driver, and the upgraded Fender premium audio system adds 8 speakers and a subwoofer. VW Car-Net also adds connected services such as Family Guardian, Remote Vehicle Access, Diagnostics & Maintenance, and Safe and Secure.
- Fuel efficiency: The TDI is rated at 30 mpg city/40 highway/34 combined, and the expert evaluation notes that it gets better fuel economy by 3 mpg compared with the previous diesel engine.
Which 2015 Volkswagen Beetle trim should I buy?
The 2015 Volkswagen Beetle is offered in 5 trim levels: 1.8T, Tech, Sound and Navigation, Classic, R-Line 2.0T.
Here's the short version:
- 1.8T: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Beetle’s core style plus heated leatherette seats, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 17-inch wheels. It makes sense if you want the Beetle look without paying for extras you may not use.
- Tech: This trim is the first one that meaningfully improves day-to-day convenience with a rear-view camera, touchscreen sound system, and keyless entry with push-button start. It is the best-value choice if you want a more modern-feeling Beetle without jumping too far up the price ladder.
- Sound and Navigation: This adds Fender premium audio, touchscreen navigation, and larger alloy wheels, so it is the pick if you care about the cabin experience and built-in navigation.
- Classic: This trim is for you if the Beetle’s retro personality is the main reason you’re shopping. The unique exterior finish, black roof, Heritage wheels, and special interior pattern make it the most style-forward choice.
- R-Line 2.0T: This is the most performance-oriented version, with the strongest gas engine, sport suspension, larger wheels, and R-line bodywork. Choose it if you want the Beetle’s character with the most energetic driving feel.
The safety content also notes that a rear-view camera is not standard, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on higher trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Volkswagen Beetle?

- Deal availability: 25.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 315 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 5.90% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 47.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,983.30, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Volkswagen Beetle's resale value?
The current average of $13,446 sits slightly above last year's $12,696.
That upward move suggests the market is still willing to pay for a clean, well-equipped Beetle. If you buy carefully and keep the car in good condition, the model’s distinctive styling and broad appeal can help support future demand. The fact that shoppers continue to respond to the Beetle’s personality and efficiency also helps keep it relevant in the used market.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Volkswagen Beetle safe?
The Beetle received Good marks for all IIHS tests except Small Overlap Front, which received only a Marginal rating, and the NHTSA gave it a five-star overall rating.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Beetle comes with multiple airbags, automatic rollover support, antilock brakes, electronic stability control, an intelligent crash-response system, and a tire pressure monitoring system. VW Car-Net adds roadside assistance, manual emergency call, and automatic crash notifications if the airbag is deployed. A rear-view camera is not standard, but it is available on higher trims, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also available on higher trims. The main caveat is the Marginal IIHS result in Small Overlap Front, so you should pay close attention to crash history and repair quality when shopping used.
Should I buy a 2015 Volkswagen Beetle or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 25.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 47% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 5.90% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2015 model stands out for its three-engine lineup, including a new, more powerful TDI clean diesel that also improves fuel economy.
The bottom line: If you want the Beetle’s retro style, strong owner satisfaction, and a broad trim range, the 2015 is a solid year to target. If you are shopping on a tighter budget, focus on the cleanest example you can find and compare it carefully against nearby model years, since the market still rewards well-kept cars and the Beetle is not a bargain at every trim level.
