CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Toyota RAV4
overall

Summary
With 1,992 currently listed for sale and an average price of $14,821, 29.9% of 2015 Toyota RAV4s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Toyota RAV4 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
54.4% of 2015 RAV4 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Toyota RAV4 stands out for combining perky drivability, high fuel economy, and pack-anything levels of cargo space in a reasonably appealing package. That mix makes it easy to see why it remains attractive to buyers who want a compact crossover SUV that is practical without feeling dull.
It is also helped by improved crash-test ratings, which elevate its stature among the members of the species. At the same time, it lacks the va-va-voom necessary to recommend it over many other excellent vehicles in the class, so its appeal is more about well-rounded usefulness than excitement.

The RAV4 drives great and has most of the features I wanted. The only things I would add is rear air conditioning and cross bars on the roof rack. It drives smooth and gets incredible gas mileage for an AWD vehicle. Im quite happy with my purchase and cant wait for the first big roadtrip!

How much does the 2015 Toyota RAV4 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $14,818 |
| Year-Round Low | $13,928 |
| Year-Round High | $14,964 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,640 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +1.22% |
Prices are up 1.22% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 1,987 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for you to compare.
Is the 2015 Toyota RAV4 a good car?
Yes — the 4.88/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.33/10. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, spaciousness, and impressive fuel economy, and they also call out good handling and a comfortable ride. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a compact crossover that emphasizes practical usefulness, cargo space, and everyday drivability more than excitement.
With 30.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.
Is the 2015 Toyota RAV4 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also emphasizes reliability, and the expert notes say trouble is unlikely, with strong dependability and reliability ratings from major consumer sources. The RAV4’s reputation for being a practical, long-term choice is reinforced by that combination of owner and expert sentiment.
Toyota also includes free scheduled maintenance for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles of ownership, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure prior wear, maintenance history, and accident history are clean before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Toyota RAV4?
At 54.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LE, XLE, and Limited trims differ in equipment, and the base trim leaves out some of the nicer comfort and convenience touches you may want.
- Powertrain: Every RAV4 uses a 176-hp, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with a 6-speed automatic, and the setup is tuned more for efficiency and everyday drivability than punch.
- Safety package: A rear-view camera is standard, but blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning require the optional Technology Package on the Limited trim.
- Infotainment: The available Entune setup uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen, and the system is not especially easy to use.
- Fuel efficiency: The RAV4 is rated at 25 mpg combined, and the test vehicle returned 26 mpg in mixed highway-heavy driving.
Which 2015 Toyota RAV4 trim should I buy?
The 2015 Toyota RAV4 is offered in 3 trim levels: LE, XLE, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LE: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the RAV4 name and can live without extra convenience features.
- XLE: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds more everyday comfort and convenience without pushing you all the way to the top trim.
- Limited: Choose this if you want the most upscale RAV4 experience and are willing to pay for the highest trim level.
The Technology Package is only available on the Limited trim, so if you want the extra driver-assistance features, you need to shop at the top.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Toyota RAV4?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find reasonable options.
- Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,987 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.22% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 54.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,928, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Toyota RAV4's resale value?
The current average of $14,818 sits slightly above last year's $14,640.
That modest increase suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year. If you buy carefully and keep the vehicle in good condition, you should have a decent chance of preserving value better than a weaker-used crossover with less owner demand.
The fact that prices are still above last year’s level also suggests buyers continue to see value in the RAV4’s practicality and efficiency. For a future seller, that kind of steady demand can help support a more predictable resale outcome.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Toyota RAV4 safe?
The 2015 RAV4 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with a three-star protection rating for the front passenger in the frontal-impact assessment.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Every version gets a rear-view camera, but blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning are reserved for the optional Technology Package on the Limited trim. Active cruise control and active braking are unavailable, and Toyota Safety Connect is not offered on this model year.
The main caveat is that the NHTSA result is not uniformly strong, so you should pay close attention to the vehicle’s safety equipment and trim level when shopping used.
Should I buy a 2015 Toyota RAV4 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.22% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Improved crash-test ratings help elevate this model year’s standing.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $13,925, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $14,818 average.
- It is a dependable choice with class-leading cargo capacity.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2015 is the better target because it combines solid owner satisfaction, decent deal availability, and improved safety standing. If your priority is simply spending less up front, the 2014 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core RAV4 strengths.
