How much does the 2015 Subaru Outback cost?

Is the 2015 Subaru Outback a good car?

Yes — the 2015 Subaru Outback earns a 4.86/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

You’re looking at a model that’s built around broad utility, standard all-wheel drive, and strong capability in a variety of driving situations. Owners repeatedly praise the solid ride, luxurious feel, ample cargo space, fuel efficiency, and impressive safety features. That makes it a strong fit if you want a versatile crossover-like wagon that can handle daily driving, bad weather, and road trips without feeling compromised.

Is the 2015 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as reliable, dependable, and trouble-free, with praise that points to confidence over the long haul. The expert evaluation also frames it as useful, reliable, safe, and affordable, while noting that Subaru’s safety-first engineering is a core part of the vehicle’s appeal. The cost-effectiveness discussion adds that Subaru’s ownership reputation is mixed in broader historical terms, so a careful used-car inspection still matters.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s core concept and more about how well a specific example has been maintained and equipped.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Outback?

At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven wear, and any evidence that safety or driver-assistance equipment may not be functioning as intended. Because this model’s appeal depends so much on its all-weather capability and safety reputation, condition matters more than cosmetic presentation.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2.5i comes with basic 17-inch steel wheels with wheel covers, but it still includes a rear-view camera, Bluetooth connectivity, a touchscreen interface for the climate control and audio systems, and a roof rack with crossbars. The 2.5i Premium adds 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, fog lamps, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The 2.5i Limited adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a power liftgate, heated rear seats, active fog lights, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic detection, and lane-change assist. The 3.6R Limited adds a 6-cylinder engine and Xenon headlamps. The best-value trim is the 2.5i Premium if you want a stronger feature set without moving all the way upmarket.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine makes 175 hp and uses a CVT, with decent off-the-line response but weaker mid-range acceleration. A more powerful 256-hp 3.6-liter 6-cylinder is available in the 3.6R Limited, but it is less efficient.
• Safety package: EyeSight is an option for Premium and Limited trims and uses two windshield-mounted cameras to monitor the road ahead, warn you of danger, and brake the car to a full stop if needed. The Rear Vehicle Detection System is optional on Premium models and standard on Limited models, and it includes blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change assist. That means the lower trims miss some of the most useful driver-assistance features.
• Infotainment: The Starlink interface includes Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, hands-free calling, music streaming, and access to mobile apps. The available navigation system uses a 7-inch touchscreen with swipe and pinch controls, and the interface is described as simple and crisp.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation says the Outback does not penalize buyers in terms of fuel economy, and the performance discussion notes an EPA rating of 28 mpg in combined driving for the 2.5i.

Which 2015 Subaru Outback trim should I buy?

The 2015 Subaru Outback is offered in 4 trim levels: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 3.6R Limited.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5i: This is the entry point, but it still gives you useful equipment like a rear-view camera, Bluetooth, a touchscreen interface for climate and audio, and a roof rack with crossbars. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra comfort and safety features.
• 2.5i Premium: This is the trim that adds the most everyday comfort value, with alloy wheels, heated front seats, an 8-way power driver’s seat, fog lamps, and dual-zone automatic climate control. It’s the best-value trim if you want a more complete ownership experience without jumping to the top end.
• 2.5i Limited: This trim adds the most meaningful convenience and safety upgrades, including a power liftgate, heated rear seats, active fog lights, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic detection, and lane-change assist. It’s the right pick if you want a more premium feel and more driver assistance.
• 3.6R Limited: This version is for you if you want the stronger 6-cylinder engine and the added Xenon headlamps. It’s the choice for buyers who care more about extra power than maximum efficiency.

EyeSight is optional on Premium and Limited trims, and the Rear Vehicle Detection System is optional on Premium but standard on Limited.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Subaru Outback?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,356 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.77% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,621, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $10,680 sits slightly below last year's $11,706.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that the model still has broad appeal, but resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment. Listings with strong safety features and a clean history should remain easier to move than rougher examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Subaru Outback safe?

The 2015 Subaru Outback earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, and versions equipped with EyeSight technology receive a Top Safety Pick+ rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and it uses two cameras mounted on the windshield to watch the road ahead, warn you of danger, and brake the car to a full stop if necessary. The Rear Vehicle Detection System adds blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change assist, and it is optional on Premium models and standard on Limited models. Subaru’s ring-shaped reinforcement frame is also part of the safety story, helping absorb and deflect crash energy away from the cabin.

Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.77% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Redesigned for 2015, the Outback is bigger and better than before while preserving fuel economy.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $12,548, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $10,680 average.
• It’s built for active travel and outdoor use, with stronger emphasis on packing people and cargo for bigger adventures.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2015 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and broad capability. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year, the 2016 is the better path for buyers who want the next step up in overall utility and lifestyle focus.
