How much does the 2015 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 1.35% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,428 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and conditions.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — 4.67/5 from owners and 7.17/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise its smooth handling, spacious interior, fuel efficiency, and practicality. That lines up well with the Forester’s use case as a value-focused compact crossover that puts usefulness ahead of flash, especially if you want a well-regarded family hauler rather than the newest tech or the most luxurious cabin.

The market also shows 32.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, so you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback also points to dependable day-to-day use, with recurring praise for practicality and a vehicle that many drivers feel good about keeping over time. The expert review describes it as a reliable family and grocery hauler, and it emphasizes a balance that supports everyday confidence.

The ownership picture is still mixed enough that you should verify maintenance history carefully, since some shoppers have raised reliability concerns.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Forester?

At 64% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, prior damage, and whether the car’s equipment still works as intended, since the model’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2.5i Premium adds more comfort and convenience than the base setup, and the EyeSight package brings important driver aids that strengthen the Forester’s safety story.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a CVT in the 2.5i and 2.5i Premium, while the turbocharged 2.0XT adds much more power.
• Safety package: EyeSight adds pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure and sway warnings, and pre-collision throttle management; it is camera-based and can disengage in low-visibility conditions.
• Infotainment: The standard display is 4.3 inches, and the optional navigation system uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT is rated at 24 mpg city/32 highway, the 6-speed manual at 22/29, and the turbocharged 2.0XT at 23/28.

Which 2015 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2015 Subaru Forester is offered in 3 trim levels: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.0XT.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5i: This is the entry point if you want the Forester’s core strengths at the lowest cost, including the standard backup camera and Subaru’s safety-focused formula.
• 2.5i Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it builds on the base model with a more appealing equipment mix while staying with the efficient 2.5-liter setup.
• 2.0XT: Choose this if you want the strongest acceleration and are willing to pay for the turbocharged engine’s extra performance.

The safety package is a major part of the Forester’s appeal, and EyeSight is the trim-level feature to look for if you want the most advanced driver assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Subaru Forester?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare condition as much as price.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,428 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.35% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 64.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,877, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $11,180 sits slightly below last year's $11,333.

That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the Forester’s strong reputation for practicality and safety helps support demand among shoppers who want a dependable compact crossover.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2015 Subaru Forester earns an IIHS Top Pick rating and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with only front impacts getting a four-star score.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes symmetrical AWD, antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a strong airbag lineup with front pelvis/torso, side-curtain, and driver’s knee airbags. EyeSight adds pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure and sway warnings, and pre-collision throttle management, though the camera-based system can disengage in fog, snow, rain, or bright sunlight.

Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 64% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.35% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2015 adds a standard backup camera and available EyeSight safety tech, making it a strong value-focused choice.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $9,754, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $11,180 average.
• It emphasizes Subaru’s all-wheel-drive reputation and all-weather capability.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $12,557, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $11,180 average.
• It adds a new touchscreen interface that makes the cabin feel more up to date.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and everyday usefulness, the 2015 is the sweet spot. If your budget is tighter, the 2014 can save you money, while the 2016 makes sense if you want the newer tech and are willing to pay more.
