How much does the 2015 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 1.05% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,398 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2015 Subaru Forester earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth handling, spacious interior, and practical value, and they also call out its fuel efficiency and safety features. That lines up with the Forester’s role as a practical crossover for shoppers who care more about substance than flash, especially if you want a well-rounded daily driver with broad utility. 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback also points to dependable, trouble-free ownership for many drivers, with repeated praise for practicality and everyday usability. The expert test drive notes that it works well as a reliable family and grocery hauler, and the cost-effectiveness commentary reinforces Subaru’s strong ownership reputation. The maintenance and ownership picture looks favorable overall, but used buyers should still watch for signs of wear and verify service history carefully, especially on higher-mileage examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Forester?

At 63.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim you expected. If you’re comparing multiple listings, use condition and maintenance records to separate the cleanest examples from the rest.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Forester is described as having understated or slightly aggressive versions depending on powertrain choice, and the interior is noted as below par with an infotainment system that is one of the worst in the industry. The base setup is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment, so compare features carefully if you want a better-equipped cabin.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter four-cylinder can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a CVT in the 2.5i and 2.5i Premium, while the turbocharged 2.0XT brings a 250-hp engine with 258 lb-ft of torque. The CVT returns 24 mpg city/32 highway, the manual manages 22/29, and the turbo is rated at 23/28.
• Safety package: EyeSight adds pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure and sway warnings, and pre-collision throttle management. It is an optical system, so low-visibility conditions can cause it to disengage, and it is not included on every setup.
• Infotainment: The standard screen is 4.3 inches, and the optional navigation system uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen. The system is described as laggy and low-resolution, so test it carefully before you buy.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT returns 24 mpg city/32 highway, the manual manages 22/29, and the turbocharged model is rated at 23/28.

Which 2015 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2015 Subaru Forester is offered in 3 trim levels: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.0XT Premium.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5i: This is the simplest path into the Forester, and it gives you the core Subaru formula without extra frills. It suits you if you want the lowest-cost way to get the Forester’s space, safety, and all-wheel-drive character.
• 2.5i Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday comfort and is the trim used in the expert test drive. It makes the Forester feel more complete without pushing you into the pricier turbo model.
• 2.0XT Premium: Choose this if you want the strongest acceleration and more power for highway passing. It is the performance-oriented choice in the lineup, but you should buy it for the extra punch rather than for fuel savings.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that EyeSight is an add-on on some configurations, so verify whether the listing includes it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Subaru Forester?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,398 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.05% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,874, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $11,266 sits slightly below last year's $11,386.

That small decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, the current pricing trend implies you may not see rapid appreciation, but the Forester’s broad appeal should help it remain liquid when it’s time to sell. Strong demand for practical, safety-focused crossovers can support resale, especially if your vehicle has clean history and solid maintenance records.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2015 Subaru Forester earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick rating and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star front-impact ratings.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes symmetrical all-wheel drive, antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a strong airbag lineup with front pelvis/torso, side-curtain, and driver’s knee airbags. EyeSight adds pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure and sway warnings, and pre-collision throttle management, though the system can disengage in low-visibility conditions and direct sunlight. The main caveat is that the EyeSight system is not flawless in real-world use, so you should test it carefully if the listing includes it.

Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.05% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines a fresh redesign with strong safety and practical value.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $9,826, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $11,266 average.
• It emphasizes all-weather confidence and practical utility.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $12,474, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $11,266 average.
• It adds a new touchscreen interface and broader overall refinement.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and everyday usefulness, the 2015 is the smart target. If you’re shopping on a tighter budget, the 2014 can save you money, while the 2016 makes sense if you want the newer interface and are willing to pay more.
