How much does the 2015 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 1.31% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,447 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2015 Subaru Forester earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise its smooth handling, spacious interior, fuel efficiency, and practicality. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a crossover that puts value and safety ahead of flash, with appeal strongest if you want a practical compact SUV rather than the newest tech or the most luxurious cabin.

Good and great deals account for 32.4% of listings, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback also points to reliability concerns, even while emphasizing the Forester’s dependable feel, practicality, and value. The expert review describes it as a good balance for a reliable family and grocery hauler, which supports the idea that it’s built to handle everyday use well.

The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that some examples may have more wear or maintenance needs than the average shopper expects, so condition and service history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Forester?

At 63.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the cabin and electronics match the seller’s description. Because some owners have raised reliability concerns, a careful mechanical check is worth the time.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2.5i Premium adds more equipment than the lower trims, and the expert review notes that the base setup can feel sparse by comparison.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter four-cylinder can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a CVT, while the turbocharged 2.0XT brings more power and stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: EyeSight adds pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure and sway warnings, plus pre-collision throttle management; it is not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: The standard screen is 4.3 inches, and the optional navigation setup uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen; the review is critical of both the resolution and responsiveness.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT is rated at 24 mpg city/32 highway, the 6-speed at 22/29, and the turbocharged model at 23/28.

Which 2015 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2015 Subaru Forester is offered in 3 trim levels: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.0XT Premium.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5i: This is the entry point if you want the Forester’s core strengths at the lowest price, but it’s the most basic way to get the model’s safety and utility.
• 2.5i Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and convenience without pushing you into the pricier turbo model.
• 2.0XT Premium: Choose this if you want the stronger turbocharged engine and quicker acceleration, and you’re willing to pay more for it.

EyeSight adds important driver-assistance features, but it is not included on every trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Subaru Forester?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,447 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.31% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,874, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $11,211 sits slightly below last year's $11,360.

That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on broad market appreciation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2015 Subaru Forester earns an IIHS Top Pick rating and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal impacts.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes symmetrical all-wheel drive, antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full airbag suite with front pelvis/torso, side-curtain, and driver’s knee airbags. EyeSight adds pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure and sway warnings, plus pre-collision throttle management, and the braking system earned a Superior rating from IIHS.

One caveat is that EyeSight relies on cameras, so visibility conditions can affect how consistently it stays active.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester a good buy compared with nearby model years?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 32.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.31% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert review says it was fresh off a redesign and still stood out for value, safety, and practicality.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $9,853, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $11,211 average.
• It leans hard into Subaru’s all-wheel-drive reputation and all-weather capability.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $12,387, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $11,211 average.
• It adds a new touchscreen interface that makes the package feel more up to date.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, safety, and everyday usefulness, the 2015 is the primary target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2014 can save you money, while the 2016 makes sense if you want a newer-feeling infotainment setup and are willing to pay more.
