How much does the 2015 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 2,415 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2015 Subaru Forester earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth handling, spacious interior, fuel efficiency, and practicality. The overview also points to strong value and everyday usefulness, which fits you well if you want a practical crossover rather than a flashy one. It is especially appealing if you care more about safety, space, and all-weather confidence than about the latest cabin tech.

The market also shows 33.3% good and great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights the Forester as dependable in daily use, with owners repeatedly pointing to its practicality, fuel efficiency, and overall value. The expert review also describes it as a good balance for a reliable family and grocery hauler, which reinforces its long-term usefulness. Subaru’s cost-effectiveness notes also mention the brand’s strong resale and low cost to own reputation for 2015.

The main ownership risk for used buyers is that some listings may have reliability concerns, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Forester?

At 61.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and any signs of prior repair. Because some owners have raised reliability concerns, it is smart to focus on maintenance records and how the vehicle has aged rather than just mileage alone. You should also pay close attention to the infotainment system if you want a more modern-feeling cabin.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base setup emphasizes practicality, while the Premium example adds more comfort and convenience equipment; the cabin and infotainment remain a weak point compared with rivals.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter boxer 4-cylinder can be paired with a 6-speed manual or CVT, while the turbocharged 2.0XT adds much more power.
• Safety package: EyeSight adds pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise, lane-departure and sway warnings, and pre-collision throttle management; it can be affected by low-visibility conditions.
• Infotainment: The standard screen is 4.3 inches, and the optional navigation system uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT is rated at 24 mpg city/32 highway, while the 6-speed manual manages 22/29.

Which 2015 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2015 Subaru Forester is offered in 1 trim level: 2.5i Premium.

Here's the short version:

The 2.5i Premium: This is the trim most clearly supported by the expert review, since it was the tested version and adds the kind of everyday comfort and convenience you are most likely to notice. It is the best-value path if you want the Forester’s core strengths without chasing the more expensive turbo setup or optional tech that the review criticizes. The safety package note is important here: EyeSight adds useful driver aids, but it can disengage in low-visibility conditions.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Subaru Forester?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,415 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,874, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $11,079 sits slightly below last year's $11,172.

That small decline suggests the Forester has been holding value fairly steadily rather than dropping sharply. For a future seller, that is a useful sign because it points to a market that remains familiar with the model and still values its practicality. If you keep the vehicle in good condition and maintain it well, you are more likely to stay competitive when it is time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2015 Subaru Forester earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and a five-star rating from NHTSA, with four-star front-impact results.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes symmetrical AWD, antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a strong airbag list that includes front pelvis/torso, side-curtain, and driver’s knee airbags. EyeSight adds pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise, lane-departure and sway warnings, and pre-collision throttle management. The expert review also notes that EyeSight uses cameras rather than radar, so it can disengage in low-visibility conditions.

Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong safety, practical value, and a fresh redesign that still feels relevant.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $9,754, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $11,079 average.
• It emphasizes all-weather practicality and a familiar, spacious crossover formula.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $12,528, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $11,079 average.
• It adds a new touchscreen interface and a more attractive cabin experience.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, safety, and everyday usefulness, the 2015 is the strongest all-around pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2014 can save you money, while the 2016 makes sense if you want the newer tech and are willing to pay more.

How does the 2015 Subaru Forester compare to the 2015 Honda CR-V?

Our experts score the 2015 Subaru Forester 7.2/10 and the 2015 Honda CR-V 8.5/10.

The Forester gives you stronger safety emphasis and a lower average used price, while the CR-V brings more power, better fuel economy, and a stronger overall expert score. If you want the more affordable option with a strong safety reputation, the Forester makes sense. If you want the more polished all-around choice, the CR-V is the better bet.
