CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Summary
With 879 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,904.00, 32.3% of 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class 4.95 / 5 stars.
57.6% of 2015 S-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class stands out as a full-size luxury sedan that blends advanced technology with a deeply polished sense of craftsmanship. In the W222 generation, Mercedes gave the car a new aluminum hybrid body shell that cut weight and improved rigidity, and the redesign also brought a first-in-the-world lighting setup that used LEDs throughout the interior and exterior. The cabin was a major part of the appeal, with a sumptuous mix of wood and metal accents, selectable ambient lighting, and a pair of 12.3-inch screens under a single panel that gave the car a modern, high-end feel. It also retained many physical controls, which may make the system easier to live with than some newer designs.
For 2015, Mercedes expanded the lineup with the S 550e plug-in hybrid, the revived S 600, and the AMG S 65. The S 550e made 329 system horsepower and offered 14 miles of electric range, while the S 600 produced 523 horsepower and 612 pound-feet of torque and the S 65 delivered 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet. That range of powertrains helped the S-Class cover both efficiency and serious performance, and the car also offered features such as adaptive suspension, a surround-view camera system, and optional rear executive seating packages, massaging seats, and Burmester surround-sound audio. Buyers looking for a used luxury flagship will also appreciate that the W222 has a very good reliability record overall, though it remains expensive to maintain and can still suffer from electrical issues and suspension problems.

This model is particularly a great S-Class version. It is so much better than the successor model S. The features are pretty much the same but having the tactile models and not a giant Ipad in the middle made the car so much more user friendly. I hope the next version reverts back to tactile buttons and not all of these haptics that just do not work. It is a card with an excellent ride and the sound system is top notch. I have never really had a smooth quieter ride than the S Class Mercedes.

The Mercedes-Benz S Class is my favorite vehicle. This particular vehicle attracted me with the very low mileage and one owner which is a rare combination (low mileage, one owner, low price). The only thing this car is missing is me in the driver seat.

How much does the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $25,022 |
| Year-Round Low | $25,053.31 |
| Year-Round High | $27,164.44 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $27,006 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.34% |
Prices have softened 7.34% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 903 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $25,053.31, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.95/5 user rating points to very strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the luxurious features, smooth ride, and powerful performance, and they also highlight the high-quality interior and advanced technology. For you, that means this model fits especially well if you want a full-size luxury sedan that emphasizes comfort, craftsmanship, and a polished driving experience. With 26.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.95/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on its smooth, trouble-free character and the sense that it delivers the kind of long-term ownership experience buyers expect from a flagship sedan. That said, used luxury ownership can still bring higher repair exposure, so you should plan for careful maintenance and inspect any example closely before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
At 58.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you get too far into the process. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on the suspension, electronics, and other high-cost systems that matter most on a luxury sedan like this. Focus on overall condition and maintenance documentation, because a well-kept example is likely to be a much better ownership experience than one that simply looks good in photos.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient and compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 903 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.34% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,053.31, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?
The current average of $25,022 sits slightly below last year's $27,006.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is condition: a well-maintained example with strong documentation should hold up better than one with gaps in service or visible wear. Because this is a luxury flagship, buyers tend to reward clean history and premium equipment, so presentation matters when it is time to list it again.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.95/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.34% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.95/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, owner satisfaction, and current market availability, the 2015 is a sensible place to start. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a cleaner or better-equipped example offers more value for only a small difference in asking price.
