CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Kia Sorento
overall

Summary
With 61 currently listed for sale near Los Angeles, CA and an average price of $8,999.00, 23.0% of 2015 Kia Sorentos for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Kia Sorento 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.83 / 10.
80.3% of 2015 Sorento models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Kia Sorento stands out as an attractive, well-equipped crossover that reflects Kia’s emphasis on stylish vehicles, useful features, and fair pricing. It is the kind of SUV that can appeal to buyers who want a practical family vehicle without giving up a more polished look and a generous equipment list.
At the same time, the 2015 Kia Sorento is not without drawbacks. Its fuel economy is a weak point, and its performance in a critical new crash-test evaluation is also disappointing. Taken together, those shortcomings make it clear that while the Sorento has plenty to recommend it, it was in need of a total makeover to stay competitive in its segment.

Great car, has most features . The only one I wish it had that is not there is electric seats. Other than that I’m very satisfied.

So far, I am satisfied with the Sorento. Was also ,looking at the Dodge Journey, and decided on Sorento. Is quiet, takes hills nicely, especially like hil- assist. Only drawback is some features advertised were missing,i.e. prower heated side mirrors and auto daytime running lights. Otherwise, felt I got a good value.

How much does the 2015 Kia Sorento cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $8,460 |
| Year-Round Low | $8,476.59 |
| Year-Round High | $9,721.75 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $9,727 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −13.03% |
Prices have softened 13.03% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 909 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $8,476.59, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2015 Kia Sorento a good car?
Yes — 4.75/5 from owners, and it earns a 6.83/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 8/10.
Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, smooth ride, and reliable performance. That lines up well with the Sorento’s role as a practical family crossover, especially if you want useful features and a polished look without moving up to a larger SUV. The market also shows 28.5% good or great deals, which adds some shopping flexibility.
Is the 2015 Kia Sorento reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to reliable performance, and the broader ownership picture also emphasizes value from Kia’s warranty and roadside-assistance coverage. The expert evaluation adds that the Sorento’s performance is dependable in everyday driving, with a quick-thinking automatic transmission and sure-footed traction on slippery surfaces.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that this model year also carries concerns about fuel economy and overall ownership costs, so condition and maintenance history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Kia Sorento?
At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because some listings may have accident histories, condition matters more than mileage alone. It’s also smart to confirm that the equipment you expect is actually present, since some owners noted missing advertised features.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the starting point, while the EX adds leather upholstery, a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear side-window sunshades, UVO eServices, keyless engine start, a reversing camera, and blind-spot detection. The SX adds 19-inch wheels, power folding side mirrors, a power tailgate, LED taillights, navigation, a premium audio system, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, rear air conditioning, and a 115-volt power outlet. The SX Limited adds chrome wheels, Xenon headlights, premium Nappa leather, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.
- Powertrain: A 4-cylinder engine comes standard on the LX, while a V6 is optional there and standard on the other trims. The V6 is described as a 290-hp, 3.3-liter engine paired with a 6-speed automatic, and front-wheel drive is standard with all-wheel drive available.
- Safety package: The EX includes a reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors, while blind-spot detection is included on the SX and Limited trims. The UVO eServices system also adds 911 Connect with Crash Notification Assist.
- Infotainment: UVO is responsive and intuitive, with voice commands, smartphone syncing, eServices access, Parking Minder, and navigation integration. The system also supports geo-fencing and speed and curfew alerts for parents.
- Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation notes a disappointing 18.1 mpg in combined driving, with EPA estimates of about 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.
Which 2015 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?
The 2015 Kia Sorento is offered in 4 trim levels: LX, EX, SX and SX Limited.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Sorento’s core crossover shape and standard 4-cylinder setup. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but you’ll want to check carefully which convenience and safety features are included on the specific listing.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a V6, leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera, rear parking-assist sensors, and blind-spot detection. If you want the strongest mix of equipment and everyday usefulness, this is the trim to target first.
- SX: This trim adds more upscale equipment, including 19-inch wheels, a power tailgate, navigation, a premium audio system, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and rear air conditioning. It suits you if you want a more premium-feeling Sorento and are willing to pay for it.
- SX Limited: This is the most luxurious version, with chrome wheels, Xenon headlights, premium Nappa leather, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel. It’s the right pick if you want the most comfort-focused and fully equipped Sorento.
The blind-spot detection system is included on SX and Limited trims, while EX models get the reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Kia Sorento?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 909 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.03% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $8,476.59, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Kia Sorento's resale value?
The current average of $8,460 sits slightly below last year's $9,727.
That price decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale upside may be limited unless the vehicle is especially clean, well maintained, and well equipped. Stronger trims and well-documented service history should hold buyer interest better than a rougher example.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Kia Sorento safe?
It earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Kia’s UVO eServices system includes 911 Connect with Crash Notification Assist, and the higher trims add useful driver-assistance features such as a reversing camera, rear parking-assist sensors, and blind-spot detection. The blind-spot warnings appear in the exterior mirrors, which makes them easier to notice in real driving.
The main caveat is that the Sorento was not transformed into a showcase for the latest active safety tech, and the expert evaluation also notes a disappointing result in a critical crash-test evaluation.
Should I buy a 2015 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 28.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.03% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The year’s standout is its strong technology and feature content, even if fuel economy and crash-test performance are weaker.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $7,926, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $8,460 average.
- It emphasizes style, performance, safety, and substance.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $10,114, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $8,460 average.
- It brings a more upscale appearance and a refined interior.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price and equipment, the 2015 is the one to focus on. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2014 can save you money, while the 2016 makes sense if you want the newer redesign and are willing to pay more for it.
