CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Jeep Cherokee

Summary
With 2,113 currently listed for sale and an average price of $9,726.00, 29.1% of 2015 Jeep Cherokees for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Jeep Cherokee 4.75 / 5 stars.
59.4% of 2015 Cherokee models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Jeep Cherokee stands out as a compact SUV that pushed the Cherokee name in a very different direction. It adopted a softer crossover body style and a modernized take on Jeep’s seven-slot grille, with thin LED strips up top that look like headlights but are actually running lamps. That design was a major departure for a nameplate that had been absent from the U.S. market for more than a decade, and it helped the Cherokee appeal to buyers who wanted all-weather traction and a sense of adventure without the noise and bulk of Jeep’s older SUVs.
For 2015, Jeep added auto-stop/start to the V6, while the four-cylinder received emissions upgrades and met Partial Zero Emission Vehicle standards. The backup camera and auto headlamps became standard on the Latitude and Trailhawk, and additional option packages brought ventilated seats on the Trailhawk, forward emergency braking, and rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitors. That mix of available comfort and safety equipment helped the Cherokee feel more modern, even if the model still had some rough edges.
At the same time, the 2015 Cherokee had clear compromises. The base 2.4-liter four-cylinder was described as harsh and underpowered, and the generation as a whole was affected by major transmission issues in its early years. Even so, it offered features that were unusual for its class, including an optional low-range transfer case on some trims and standard equipment such as LED taillamps, Bluetooth, and a 5-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5.0. For shoppers who value style, available capability, and a broad feature set, the 2015 Cherokee remains distinctive, but it is best approached with a careful test drive.

I love this car, the heated seats and stearin wheel are one of my favorites. The moon roof that opens up into the back seats is beautiful. The fact I can restart my car in the morning is a time saver

I finally decided on the Jeep Cherokee. I had looked at the Grand Cherokee, but there were recalls on the 2014's with no resolution, so I thought it best to stay away from the 2015's as well. I decided to drive the regular Cherokee V6 (Limited 4x4), it has all the room I need with no kids. I was very impressed with how solid it felt and "tight". I drove the Kia and Toyota equivalents, but they both seemed too "splashy" to me. I am very happy with my new Jeep. My Cherokee has the "stop/start" option which is very interesting and I am liking it. This technology has been in Europe for 30 years. The way it works is: once you have driven the car at lest a 1/4 mile or so, the stop/start will engage once you come to a complete stop with your foot on the brake. Once at a complete stop, the Jeep engine will turn off, the tach goes to 0. The radio/heat/air, etc will stay on. Once you begin to take your foot off the brake the engine starts immediately and off you go. The first week using it may seem odd, but it will save you gas. There is no hesitation at all. You can choose to turn off your "stop/start" with the push of a button if desired. The Jeep Cherokee also has nitrogen filled tires which gives a much smoother ride than regular air. If necessary, you can top-off or fill the tires with regular air. I am keeping the nitrogen for the better ride. I am still getting used to the back-up camera, which is a must have in any SUV/CUV. This is my first 4x4 and look forward to using it in the snow and on the gravel roads in Boone and Blowing Rock of North Carolina.

My brother has a 2018 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. It is an excellent vehicle , on and off road. Unfortunately the cost of even a used one is too much for me so I have to continue driving my old Subaru.

Is the 2015 Jeep Cherokee a good car?
Yes — the 4.75/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the Cherokee’s comfort, features, and performance, and many call out the heated and cooled seats, spacious interior, and user-friendly technology. For you, that makes it a compelling choice if you want a compact SUV with a more upscale feel and useful everyday versatility. The 25.1% share of good or great deals also gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 Jeep Cherokee reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with many drivers describing the Cherokee as comfortable and trouble-free in day-to-day use. The same feedback also points to long-term satisfaction with the interior and technology, which matters if you plan to keep the vehicle for years. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure you choose a well-maintained example with a clean history and no hidden mechanical issues.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Jeep Cherokee?
At 58.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can screen for accidents, title issues, and repeated repairs. Then prioritize a thorough inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lower asking price. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and how the vehicle drives, since a careful test drive can reveal issues that photos and listings won’t show.

What is the 2015 Jeep Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $9,805 sits slightly below last year's $10,550.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your future resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. Well-kept examples should hold up better than neglected ones, especially if they present cleanly and drive well.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2015 Jeep Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 25.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.06% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $8,927, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $9,805 average.
- It offers stronger performance and more confident foul-weather handling.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $10,691, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $9,805 average.
- It emphasizes stronger off-road capability and everyday versatility.
The bottom line: The 2015 is the better primary pick if you want a well-liked Cherokee with softened pricing and decent deal availability. If your budget is tighter, the 2014 is the smarter secondary path because it costs less while still delivering the Cherokee’s core strengths. If you want a more capability-focused setup and can spend more, the 2016 is worth a look.
