What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Ford F-150?

At 66.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing, fleet duty, or off-road driving. Focus on condition, equipment completeness, and signs of wear that could affect long-term ownership costs. Because this truck can vary widely by configuration, the details matter as much as the mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum each move the truck up in comfort and equipment, and the base trim leaves you with fewer amenities than the higher trims.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6, 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, and 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8, with the EcoBoost engines emphasized for strong torque and efficiency potential.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include Blind-Spot Information System, lane-keeping, Curve Control, adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera system, trailer hitch assist, and a trailer brake controller.
• Infotainment: Available MyFordTouch uses an 8-inch touchscreen and can include navigation, Sync hands-free features, and a 5-year trial of SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation cites 17 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 19 mpg combined for the truck tested.

Which 2015 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2015 Ford F-150 is offered in 5 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the most affordable path into the F-150 lineup, so it makes sense if you want the truck’s core capability and configurability without paying for extra comfort or tech.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday usability and is the trim level most clearly tied to the truck’s broader feature set.
• Lariat: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and more equipment without jumping all the way to the top of the range.
• King Ranch: This is the right pick if you want a more premium, distinctive truck with a stronger luxury lean.
• Platinum: Go here if you want the most upscale version of the standard lineup and are willing to pay for it.

The safety content highlights a strong suite of available driver-assistance technology, but some features are not standard on every trim.

Should I buy a 2015 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.26% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It brings aluminum body construction, turbocharged power, and broad configurability to the lineup.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $18,695, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $17,536 average.
• It leans harder into luxury with the Limited trim and more upscale trimmings.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger value proposition, the 2015 is the better starting point because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a more luxurious feel, the 2016 is the better alternative.
