CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Ford Escape
overall

Summary
With 2,228 currently listed for sale and an average price of $8,386.00, 29.7% of 2015 Ford Escapes for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Ford Escape 4.36 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
64.5% of 2015 Escape models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Ford Escape stands out as a compact crossover that feels friendly and approachable while still delivering a polished driving experience. It is described as consuming fuel politely, yet it can also be loaded up with luxury and technology and drives like a million bucks. That combination gives it broad appeal for buyers who want something practical without giving up a more upscale feel behind the wheel.
Its appeal also comes from the way it fits the modern crossover formula. The Escape is presented as stylish and refined, reflecting how the segment has grown beyond its boxy, earnest beginnings. As a car-based crossover, it offers the virtues many shoppers want from this type of vehicle, including extra ride height, a handy liftgate, and superior cargo space versus a sedan with a trunk. Owners also tend to value its power and functionality, and some praise its driving experience and stronger pickup than the Honda CR-V.
There are a few tradeoffs to keep in mind. Some owners have been dissatisfied with interior storage space, and a few have raised reliability concerns. Others found the technology a bit overwhelming, which suggests that the Escape’s available features may feel more complicated than some buyers prefer.

It has a 2.5L naturally aspirated motor. The two smaller motors Ford used are not as reliable. This motor is very reliable. Plenty of interior room and trunk space. Very happy with the car.

I would only buy an escape with the 2.5 l naturally aspirated engine which is what this had. It was a one owner car with 140k. So far I'm very happy with it and it was priced under KBB retail numbers.

The titanium package is wonderful. The large touch display is amazing. There are sensors all around the car which help you back up, hands free open the liftgate, and even lock your door simply by touching a sensor. The manual states some cars have blind spot recognition which my car does not have, and automatic parallel parking which my car also does not have. There are 2 recalls on my vehicle. One for a transmission bushing which made a noticeable improvement in my car, and a 2nd for a door lock which apparently can open even while driving. Scary but i was assured wouldnt actually happed. Im still super new to the vehicle but so far I love it. I love the back up camera. The car beeps when you start getting close to something which is great. My tire size is 235 45 19. The tires arent common so you pay a premium for them. My mechanic who has been in buisness for 40 years did not have the adapter for the lug nuts. The lugs on the car are a real specialty so if you snap one off or lose the adapter your probably screwed. Also having to put on a spare would be tough since my tire iron wont work on this vehicle. As far as driving i love the car. I love being up higher. Its nice to be up a little bit for your morning cup of coffee. Its nice that you dont have to step down into it. It seems to handle well. No issues accelerating up hills. The engine is fit for the task at hand. The car also has a hill assist so you wont have to worry about slightly rolling down a hill while you switch from breaks to gas.

If you find a listing below $8,398.35, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2015 Ford Escape a good car?
Generally — the 2015 Ford Escape earns a 4.36/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its value for money, power, and functionality, and many like the features available in the Titanium model. The Escape also gets credit for its driving experience and stronger pickup than the Honda CR-V. In use-case terms, it fits you well if you want a practical compact crossover that still feels polished and upscale behind the wheel.
The market also shows 29.7% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2015 Ford Escape reliable?
Owners rate it 4.36/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle that many owners find dependable and good value for money, with praise centered on power, functionality, and the driving experience. The expert evaluation also describes it as a friendly, approachable family crossover that fits in the garage and consumes fuel politely. Ford’s tech setup is designed so future upgrades and features can be implemented with new software versions, which helps support longer-term usability.
That said, some owners mention reliability concerns, so a used example is best approached with a careful service-history review and a thorough pre-purchase inspection.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Ford Escape?
At 64.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a hands-on inspection of body panels, alignment, and interior condition so you can judge how the vehicle was treated. Because some owners have raised reliability concerns, service records matter just as much as cosmetic condition.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base S trim is the most stripped-down version, with manual cloth seats, air conditioning, a 6-speaker audio system, and a manual liftgate. Higher trims add leather-trimmed seats, heated power-adjustable front buckets, and a liftgate that opens with a foot gesture.
- Powertrain: The Escape offers a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder, a 1.6-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder, and a 2.0-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder. The turbocharged engines deliver strong power, and the 2.0-liter version is especially muscular, but harder driving can hurt fuel economy.
- Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alerts, a rear-view camera, electronic stability control, and Curve Control are part of the safety story. The base setup is less richly equipped than higher trims.
- Infotainment: MyFordTouch uses a quadrant-style central screen and Sync voice control. It also supports Bluetooth, USB, auxiliary input, HD Radio, and SiriusXM, while the available Sony audio system adds more premium sound.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter EcoBoost with AWD is rated at 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, and combined driving came in around 23.5 mpg. The more you use the power, the more fuel it burns.
Which 2015 Ford Escape trim should I buy?
The 2015 Ford Escape is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, and Titanium.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The S is the simplest choice, and it lacks the upgraded comfort and convenience features found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SE is the best value if you want the stronger-feeling EcoBoost setup and more equipment without going all the way to the top.
- Premium/top trim: The Titanium is the one to choose if you want the most upscale feel, with leather-trimmed seating, heated power front seats, and the most premium presentation.
The safety package includes blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alerts, a rear-view camera, electronic stability control, and Curve Control.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Ford Escape?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,176 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.80% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 64.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $8,398.35, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Ford Escape's resale value?
The current average of $8,404 sits slightly below last year's $9,018.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you reduce the amount of value left to lose. Strong demand for well-kept examples can also help support resale when it’s time to move on.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.36/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Ford Escape safe?
The Escape earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA and five-star ratings for side crash protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it Good ratings for almost all categories, but it receives a Poor rating in the small overlap frontal collision test.

Should I buy a 2015 Ford Escape or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 64.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.80% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.36/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The expert evaluation highlights strong performance, polished road manners, and an upscale feel.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $9,216, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $8,404 average.
- It adds Sync 3, a more modern infotainment system.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2015 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and solid performance. If you care most about a newer-feeling infotainment experience and can stretch your budget, the 2016 is the better alternative.
