What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Dodge Challenger?

At 53.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a car like this, since condition can vary widely depending on how it was driven and maintained. Focus on tires, brakes, interior wear, and any signs that the car was used hard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Challenger is available in 7 different basic configurations, from a V6-powered SXT to the Hemi-packing R/T, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat. The base setup emphasizes style and everyday usability, while higher trims add more performance hardware and features.
• Powertrain: V6-powered Challengers have at least 305 hp, while the SRT 392 uses a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. The rear-wheel-drive layout and available 6-speed manual give the car a more traditional muscle-car feel.
• Safety package: The Challenger can be equipped with blind-spot monitoring, rear-view cameras, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning, rain-sensing wipers, automatic high beams, and configurable drive modes. Some of these aids are not standard across the lineup.
• Infotainment: The car uses an 8.4-inch display with UConnect navigation and infotainment, plus touchscreen and voice input. It also supports smartphone connectivity, Bluetooth, USB, auxiliary input, and available hotspot functionality.
• Fuel efficiency: A V6 Challenger will return up to 30 mpg highway, while the SRT 392 returned 14 mpg city/23 highway in testing. The more powerful versions trade efficiency for performance.

Which 2015 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?

The 2015 Dodge Challenger is offered in 7 trim levels: SXT, R/T, SRT 392, SRT Hellcat, and the additional configurations referenced in the model overview.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the entry point if you want the Challenger’s retro style and everyday usability at the lowest price. It makes the most sense if you care more about the look and comfort than maximum performance.
• R/T: This is the better-value choice if you want the classic V8 muscle-car experience without jumping all the way to the top performance trims. It adds the stronger Hemi character and is the trim where the manual transmission is standard.
• SRT 392: This is the best pick if you want the most complete blend of serious performance, upgraded suspension, Brembo brakes, and SRT-specific tech. It is the trim that most clearly delivers the car’s racy side.
• SRT Hellcat: This is the extreme performance choice for buyers who want the most powerful version and are willing to pay for it. It is the most specialized option in the lineup.

The safety-tech content shows that advanced driver aids are available, but not every trim gets the same equipment, so check feature availability carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Dodge Challenger?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,077 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.15% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,239, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Dodge Challenger's resale value?

The current average of $21,019 sits slightly below last year's $21,704.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a little more favorable for buyers, which can make future resale gains harder to count on in the short term. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range. Higher-demand versions should still hold up better than more common trims, especially if they remain clean and well maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Dodge Challenger safe?

The 2015 Challenger has not been crash-tested yet, but earlier model years earned five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Challenger can be equipped with blind-spot monitoring, rear-view cameras, adaptive cruise control with forward-collision warning, rain-sensing wipers, automatic high beams, and configurable drive modes. The safety writeup also notes limited visibility, so you should pay attention to how well you can see out of the car during a test drive. That matters especially if you expect to do a lot of parking-lot maneuvering or city driving.

Should I buy a 2015 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2015 refresh brings updated styling and modern driver aids while keeping the Challenger’s retro character.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $23,722, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $21,019 average.
• It adds a new shaker hood and additional trim and wheel options.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2015 is the smarter starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a refreshed look. If you want a slightly newer take with extra visual flair and don’t mind paying more, the 2016 is the better alternative.

How does the 2015 Dodge Challenger compare to the 2015 Ford Mustang?

Our experts score the 2015 Dodge Challenger 8.3/10 and the 2015 Ford Mustang 7.3/10.

The Challenger is the roomier, more comfort-oriented choice, while the Mustang leans more toward a traditional sports-car feel. The Challenger also brings stronger expert scores and better highway efficiency in the comparison shown here, but the Mustang undercuts it on average used price and offers more listings to shop. If you want retro muscle with everyday usability, the Challenger is the better fit; if you want a lower entry price and broader inventory, the Mustang deserves a look.
