What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Chevrolet Colorado?

At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially valuable here, since condition can vary a lot from one truck to another. Focus on signs of wear, repair quality, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim level you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim is the bargain of the lot, but it is also the most stripped-down version, while the WT, LT, and Z71 add progressively more comfort, convenience, and capability. The LT brings a larger touchscreen and more connected features, and the Z71 adds the most utility-focused equipment.
• Powertrain: The Colorado starts with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and also offers an optional 3.6-liter V6 with 305 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is the stronger choice if you want easier highway passing and more confident towing.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, StabiliTrak stability control with traction control, airbags including side head curtains, and a rear-vision camera. Available forward-collision alert and lane-departure warnings add extra protection, but they are not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: The LT brings Chevrolet MyLink with an 8-inch color touchscreen, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and OnStar 4G LTE capability. The system also supports Siri Eyes Free and text messaging, and the touchscreen is described as easy to use.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 tester returned 17 mpg city/24 highway/20 combined, and the 2.5-liter RWD models are cited with a 27 mpg highway rating.

Which 2015 Chevrolet Colorado trim should I buy?

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, WT, LT, and Z71.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and can live with the most basic setup. It includes a rear-view camera, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, stability control, and a 4.2-inch display, making it the bargain of the lineup.
• WT: This trim is the practical step up if you want more flexibility in body style and transmission choices, plus access to the optional V6. It makes sense if you want a work-focused truck without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, OnStar connectivity, and more comfort features while staying well below full-size-truck pricing.
• Z71: Choose this if you want the most utility-focused Colorado, including the Z71 off-road suspension package, automatic locking rear differential, hill descent control, front recovery hooks, fog lamps, and more upscale convenience features.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that forward-collision alert and lane-departure warnings are available, not standard across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Chevrolet Colorado?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 858 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.22% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,574, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado's resale value?

The current average of $15,969 sits slightly below last year's $16,671.

That softer pricing suggests the truck has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy at a competitive price now, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss later. Strong demand for a well-liked midsize pickup can also help support resale, especially if the truck is clean and well maintained.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado safe?

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado had yet to be rated by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) at the time of this review, so crash test ratings were unavailable.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, airbags including side head curtains, StabiliTrak stability control with traction control, and a standard rear-vision camera. Available forward-collision alert and lane-departure warnings add extra driver assistance, and OnStar can provide automatic crash response, stolen-vehicle assistance, and roadside assistance.

Should I buy a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.22% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2015 stands out for its return after a 3-year hiatus and its award-winning debut.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $17,030, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $15,969 average.
• It adds a stout diesel engine.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2015 is the stronger buy because pricing has softened and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year and want the added diesel option, the 2016 is worth a look.
