Is the 2015 BMW 4 Series a good car?

Generally — 4.42/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from our experts point to a car that lands well with shoppers. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its sporty performance, modern interior, and overall value, and they also like how it handles in different conditions such as rain and snow. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a stylish, driver-focused coupe and convertible lineup, plus 4-door Gran Coupe models, so the appeal is strongest if you want something distinctive rather than conventional. The market also shows 35.2% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2015 BMW 4 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.42/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable, with praise for its ability to drive well in varied conditions and for delivering a satisfying ownership experience over time. The expert notes also emphasize a solid, confidence-inspiring chassis and predictable road manners, which supports the sense that the car is built to be counted on. BMW’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps early ownership costs a bit.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that premium-car upkeep can become expensive if the car has been neglected or heavily optioned.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 BMW 4 Series?

At 51.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on condition over mileage alone, since premium features and performance hardware can make neglected examples more expensive to sort out. Pay close attention to how the car drives, how the electronics behave, and whether the equipment matches the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 4 Series is longer, lower, and wider than the 3 Series, and the lineup includes coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe body styles. Base versions can feel less richly equipped than you might expect, so check carefully for the options you want.
• Powertrain: The 428i uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 240 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque, while the 435i uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. The six-cylinder is the stronger performer, while the four-cylinder is the more relaxed cruiser.
• Safety package: The available enhanced safety suite includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and side- and top-view cameras. Standard safety equipment includes antilock brakes, front, side, and knee airbags, daytime running lights, and BMW Assist eCall.
• Infotainment: BMW’s ConnectedDrive system is straightforward, but it is not the class leader. An optional Technology Package adds a heads-up display, and Bluetooth streaming and a rear-view camera were also optional.
• Fuel efficiency: The 428i is rated at 23 mpg city/35 highway/27 combined, while the 435i is rated at 20/30/23 mpg. AWD can reduce efficiency.

Which 2015 BMW 4 Series trim should I buy?

The 2015 BMW 4 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 428i, 435i, M4, and 4 Series Gran Coupe.

Here's the short version:

• 428i: This is the best-value choice if you want the 4 Series experience without paying for the stronger engine. It delivers the turbo four-cylinder, solid efficiency, and the core styling and chassis balance that define the car.
• 435i: This is the sweet spot if you want the more rewarding engine. The turbo inline-six brings a much stronger, more effortless feel and is the better pick if driving enjoyment matters most.
• M4: This is the performance-focused choice, with the most power in the lineup and the most extreme driving character. It suits buyers who want the top-end experience and are willing to pay for it.
• 4 Series Gran Coupe: This is the practical pick if you want the 4 Series shape with extra everyday usability. It adds four-door convenience and a more spacious feel without giving up the car’s style.

The available safety package adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and side- and top-view cameras.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 BMW 4 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 857 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.75% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 51.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,433, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $13,737 sits slightly below last year's $13,982.

That kind of price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, it means resale value may be steadier if the car is well kept, but you should not expect rapid appreciation. Condition, equipment, and accident history will matter a lot when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.42/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 BMW 4 Series safe?

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The 4 Series does offer a suite of enhanced safety features such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and side- and top-view cameras for $1,900 extra. Standard safety features include antilock brakes; driver and passenger front, side, and knee airbags; daytime running lights; and BMW’s Assist eCall that automatically calls for help if the car has been in a significant crash.

One caveat is that neither the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has rated the 4 Series, so you do not get crash-test validation for this model year.

Should I buy a 2015 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.75% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.42/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It emphasizes style, driver focus, and a more distinctive look than the 3 Series.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $12,347, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $13,737 average.
• It introduced BMW’s new even-numbered coupe identity and a sporty daily-driver mission.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market value story and a more distinctive design, the 2015 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2014 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the core BMW coupe appeal.
