CarGurus Analysis: 2015 BMW 3 Series
overall

Summary
With 1,384 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,698.00, 30.4% of 2015 BMW 3 Series for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 BMW 3 Series 4.73 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2015 BMW 3 Series stands out as a sport luxury sedan that still carries the brand’s long-running reputation for sharp driving dynamics. Its tight, precise chassis remains part of the appeal, and the engine is described as wonderfully powerful, giving the car the kind of performance that has long defined the nameplate. At the same time, the source makes clear that extracting that character takes some effort, which suggests this is a car aimed at drivers who want more than just comfortable commuting.
It is also a model with a more focused identity than before, since the 2015 BMW 3 Series is now purely a sedan. That helps sharpen its mission, but it also places it in a highly competitive segment where BMW no longer has the same easy dominance it once did. The biggest drawback is price: the car’s strengths come at a cost, and the source notes that both the performance and the overall package can be expensive to buy. Owners generally echo the appeal, praising the solid build quality, impressive handling, luxurious interior, and smooth driving experience, while some point to fuel economy, backseat space, and the lack of Android integration as downsides.

Really enjoyed owning this car, driving experience was good. Tech was good and great mileage. The only downside was oil leaks once you pass 100,000 miles other than that it was reliable, I always made it home never had to use roadside assistance.

How much does the 2015 BMW 3 Series cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,704 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,560.55 |
| Year-Round High | $11,451.88 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,454 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.55% |
Prices have softened 6.55% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,413 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $10,560.55, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2015 BMW 3 Series a good car?
Yes — the 2015 BMW 3 Series earns a 4.73/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.
Owners repeatedly praise the solid build quality, impressive handling, and luxurious interior. They also highlight the smooth driving experience, which fits the car’s sport-luxury mission.
The overview makes clear that this is a sedan aimed at drivers who want more than basic commuting, with sharp dynamics and a powerful engine at the center of the appeal. That focus helps explain why it still resonates with shoppers who value driving enjoyment.
31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to find a competitive offer.
Is the 2015 BMW 3 Series reliable?
Owners rate it 4.73/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to solid build quality and a generally trouble-free ownership experience, while also noting that some high-mileage examples can develop oil leaks. That mix suggests the car can be dependable when maintained well, especially if you prioritize examples with clean service records.
The expert drive notes reinforce that the 3 Series is built around a superb chassis and a strong powertrain, which supports confidence in the car’s underlying engineering. BMW also includes standard safety equipment and emergency notification systems, which adds to the sense of everyday dependability.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that repair costs can rise quickly if prior maintenance was inconsistent.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 BMW 3 Series?
At 52.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then focus your inspection on bodywork, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair. It also makes sense to pay close attention to maintenance records, since ownership costs and high-mileage wear can matter more on a car like this.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The car is offered with a wide range of equipment, from basic interiors to leather, M-badged touches, navigation, connectivity, heated front seats, and parking assistance. Base versions can feel sparse compared with better-equipped examples, so you should compare feature content carefully.
- Powertrain: You can find 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder, and 2.0-liter turbodiesel setups, with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive depending on configuration. The 328 is described as the best balance for many buyers, while the 320 can feel underpowered and the 335 is the most forceful choice.
- Safety package: BMW includes standard antilock brakes, front and rear head protection systems, airbags for driver and passenger, and emergency notification systems. Driver-assist packages can add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and top-view cameras, lane-departure warnings, and adaptive cruise control.
- Infotainment: ConnectedDrive is straightforward, and navigation adds a larger screen plus a heads-up display. Wireless smartphone integration is not highlighted, and several features are bundled into separate packages, so you should check exactly what is installed.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter turbo with an 8-speed automatic returns 24 mpg city/36 highway/28 combined, while the diesel is rated at 32/45/37. All-wheel drive reduces mileage by roughly 5 percent.
Which 2015 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?
The 2015 BMW 3 Series is offered in 3 trim levels: 320, 328, 335.
Here's the short version:
- 320: This is the entry point, but the source says it can feel underpowered in some situations. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the 3 Series and are comfortable trading away some punch.
- 328: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a noticeable power bump and is described as the ideal balance for plenty of buyers. If you want the sweet spot between performance and everyday usability, start here.
- 335: This is the enthusiast choice, with the strongest engine and the most dramatic acceleration. It suits you best if performance matters more than purchase price or running costs.
BMW also notes that driver-assist packages are available, including blind-spot monitoring, rear- and top-view cameras, and Active Driving Assistant with lane-departure warnings and adaptive cruise control.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 BMW 3 Series?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,413 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.55% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 52.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,560.55, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 BMW 3 Series's resale value?
The current average of $10,704 sits slightly below last year's $11,454.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can make the car more approachable for you as a buyer but less favorable if you are planning to sell soon. If you own one, the softer pricing trend means you should expect resale to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.73/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 BMW 3 Series safe?
The 3 Series earned a five-star overall rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for safety, including five stars in a side collision or rollover crash. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also gave it high ratings in all crash tests except the small-overlap front test, which earned a marginal rating.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
BMW includes standard antilock brakes, front and rear head protection systems, airbags for driver and passenger, and emergency notification systems. Driver-assist packages can add blind-spot monitoring, rear- and top-view cameras, lane-departure warnings, and adaptive cruise control.
The main caveat is the marginal small-overlap front result, so you should pay close attention to crash history and repair quality on any used example.
Should I buy a 2015 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 52.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.55% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.73/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2015 is now purely a sedan, which sharpens its mission but keeps the focus on driving dynamics.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $10,159, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $10,704 average.
- It emphasizes balanced handling and a polished, controlled driving feel.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $11,648, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $10,704 average.
- It leans harder into sports-car-like driving enjoyment while remaining usable for everyday life.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of price, performance, and available inventory, the 2015 is the primary year to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2014 is the better value play, while the 2016 makes sense if you want to spend more for a more enthusiast-focused feel.
