Used 2014 Volkswagen Passat for Sale nearTrenton, NJ

How much does the 2014 Volkswagen Passat cost?

Prices have softened 6.37% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 794 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable selection to compare.

Is the 2014 Volkswagen Passat a good car?

Generally — 4.3/5. The expert rating is 7.8/10, and the model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise the Passat for its excellent fuel economy, comfortable interior, smooth handling, and spacious legroom. That lines up with the overview’s emphasis on a roomy, comfortable midsize sedan with a more polished, casual-and-classy feel than a purely utilitarian family car.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 31.0% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2014 Volkswagen Passat reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a car that many drivers feel good about living with over time, especially because it is described as dependable in everyday use and valued for its practical strengths. The expert commentary also reinforces that sense of durability by emphasizing composed, trouble-free-feeling driving manners and a car that is built to serve as a broad-appeal family sedan.

If you want a used sedan you can count on for routine commuting and family duty, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright mechanical drama and more about finding one that has been maintained well and still feels complete in terms of features and condition.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Volkswagen Passat?

At 54.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, worn interior surfaces, and any evidence that the car’s comfort and technology features are not functioning as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin is described as simple but not spartan, with an upscale look, but the test model also lacked foglights and used hard plastic and fake leather, so base-level equipment gaps matter if you want a more polished feel.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a base 2.5-liter inline 5-cylinder, a turbocharged 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder, a 3.6-liter V6, and a 2.0-liter turbodiesel; the diesel is the mileage leader, while the V6 is the strongest performer.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes electronic stability control, antilock brakes with hydraulic brake assist, a crash-absorbing front crumple zone, and an Intelligent Crash Response System.
• Infotainment: The tech setup includes Bluetooth, USB-connected device support, and smartphone music-file access, but the hardline iPhone connection and short cable are drawbacks to check for.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.5-liter returns 22 mpg city and 32 highway, the 1.8T returns 24/35, the V6 returns 20/28, and the diesel is described as the best fuel-economy choice.

Which 2014 Volkswagen Passat trim should I buy?

The 2014 Volkswagen Passat is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SE, SEL Premium, TDI SE.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Passat’s roomy cabin and composed road manners, but you should expect the fewest convenience and appearance upgrades.
• SE: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it should give you a better balance of equipment and price than the base trim while still keeping the Passat’s core strengths intact.
• SEL Premium: Choose this if you want the more upscale equipment and technology content mentioned in the expert commentary, and you’re willing to pay more for it.
• TDI SE: Pick this if fuel economy is your top priority and you want the diesel’s efficiency advantage, but make sure diesel ownership fits your driving pattern and local fueling access.

The safety content notes the Passat’s strong crash protection and standard safety hardware, which makes even the lower trims worth considering if the condition and history check out.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Volkswagen Passat?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 794 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.37% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,590, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Volkswagen Passat's resale value?

The current average of $7,597 sits slightly below last year's $8,114.

That kind of price movement suggests the Passat has already absorbed some of its depreciation, which can help a future seller if the car is kept in good condition and presented well. Because the market is still showing meaningful deal activity, buyers are clearly price-sensitive, so clean history and strong maintenance records should matter a lot when you eventually resell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Volkswagen Passat safe?

The 2014 Volkswagen Passat earns a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS and a five-star rating from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front and side airbags, electronic stability control, antilock brakes with hydraulic brake assist, a crash-absorbing front crumple zone, and an Intelligent Crash Response System that shuts off the fuel pump, unlocks the doors, and activates the hazard lights after a crash.

One caveat is the backup camera interface, which is described as awkward and unnecessarily shrinks the screen.

Should I buy a 2014 Volkswagen Passat or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its roomy, comfortable, value-focused character and its strong expert safety and form-and-function scores.

The bottom line: If you want the Passat’s best mix of space, comfort, and value, the 2014 is a sensible target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the cleanest, best-documented example you can find rather than chasing the cheapest listing, because condition and history matter a lot in this market.

How does the 2014 Volkswagen Passat compare to the 2014 Toyota Camry?

Our experts score the 2014 Volkswagen Passat 7.8/10 and the 2014 Toyota Camry 7.5/10.

The Passat gives you a lower average used price and more listings to shop, while the Camry brings stronger fuel economy and a slightly higher horsepower figure. The Passat also has the better good-and-great deal share, but the Camry has a lower accident-free share, so condition screening matters more there. If you want the more affordable, roomier-feeling value play, the Passat is the easier buy; if you want the stronger mpg numbers, the Camry has the edge.
