Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Prius stands out as a practical hybrid that built its reputation on efficiency and everyday usability. Toyota’s hybrid system was already well established by this generation, and the Prius was known for offering strong fuel economy, a roomy cabin, and a useful liftback body style. For buyers who wanted a dependable commuter with low running costs, that combination made it especially appealing.
This generation also brought a more spacious interior than before, along with improved aerodynamics to help reduce fuel consumption. The Prius offered around 46 mpg in most models, and its cabin included a multi-function display that showed real-time information about fuel efficiency and how the car’s energy was being used or recovered. Higher-specification versions could add navigation and upgraded audio, while the car’s long-running reputation for reliability helped reinforce its value.
At the same time, the 2014 Prius was not without compromises. As an older hybrid, battery degradation is something shoppers need to watch for, and some owners may find the car less suited to larger groups. Road and wind noise can also be noticeable, especially at highway speeds. Even so, its blend of thrift, practicality, and proven durability is what continues to make it distinctive.

The car is great. Awesome MGPs. I love the way I fit in the cockpit, it feels like I'm driving a spaceship. Driving is super smooth. I wish I had a backup cam because it's difficult to see out of the back window. Decent turn radius. Extra hidden storage tray in the trunk. You can pull back on the joystick to slow down without wearing out the brakes. There is a filter button for when you are driving through a stinky area. Even though it is a higher tech car I still feel like I can work on it without have to buy a bunch of unique tools. Now I just need to figure out how to maximize the MPGs by driving slower. Even with my lead foot I average 41 MPG.

The car’s features are all that I wanted. I think it was an excellent value. The car is missing absolutely nothing. I would compare it to a brand new Prius.

While there is road/wind noise on the freeway, it's not as pronounced in the liftback as it is in the prius c. The longer wheelbase and heavier weight also helps to subdue the bumps/vibrations on the road compared to the c. Lots of trunk space, and if you need more, the back seats fold down for extra room. There's plenty of room for passengers too, though three grown adults in the back may be cramped. Three kids should be fine however. Great fuel economy, you can easily get more than 50 mpg in this car unless you drive very fast, like 75 mph or more, or use it for very short trips that take less than 15 minutes..

| Year-Round High | $11,164 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $10,627 |

Is the 2014 Toyota Prius a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Toyota Prius earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its great gas mileage, comfort, spaciousness, value for money, and reliability. That makes it especially appealing if you want a practical commuter or delivery-friendly hybrid with low running costs. With 31.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Toyota Prius reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, and owners also describe it as dependable for commuting and deliveries. The combination of strong satisfaction and repeated praise for trouble-free ownership suggests this is a model many buyers can count on over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the reputation and more about the condition of the specific car you choose.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Prius?
At 51.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can screen for accidents, title issues, and ownership patterns before you go any further. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to hybrid-related condition and overall wear. Focus on how the car presents in person, because mileage, maintenance, and accident history can matter more than the badge on the hatch.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Prius?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 777 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.59% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 51.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $9,952, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Prius's resale value?
The current average of $10,903 sits slightly above last year's $10,627.
That modest increase suggests the market has held up reasonably well, which can help support resale confidence if you buy carefully. Because prices are still within a fairly tight annual range, a well-kept example should remain easier to position later than a neglected one. Strong owner satisfaction also helps keep demand steady when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 51.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.59% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,599, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,903 average.
- It adds a more polished everyday driving experience with strong comfort and fuel economy.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2014 if you want the lower average price and a broad set of listings to compare. If you can stretch your budget and want a newer option with a higher asking price, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
