How much does the 2014 Toyota Highlander cost?

Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.78/5 user rating and an 8.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and value for money, and they also call out the spacious interior and useful features. That lines up well with its family-focused mission: it is meant to make school runs, errands, and weekend drives feel easier without giving up everyday usefulness. The main tradeoffs shoppers mention are fuel economy and seat comfort, so you should weigh those against the Highlander’s strong practicality and overall appeal.

The expert review also describes it as capable and competent for everyday use and weekend trips, while noting that Toyota gave it enough power and technology to make it feel more appealing than a typical family crossover. The cost-effectiveness commentary reinforces that it delivers a lot of content for the price.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about finding a well-kept example that has not been worn down by family use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Highlander?

At 56.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you get too far into the process, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on bodywork quality, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because this is a family crossover, pay close attention to interior wear, seat comfort, and how well the cabin features still function. If you are comparing multiple listings, condition should matter as much as mileage and price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE trim brings standard seating for 8, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, a backup camera, Bluetooth hands-free calling, and plenty of storage, while the LE Plus adds three-zone climate control with rear climate toggles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and SofTex leatherette seating. The XLE adds navigation, leather seating, and a detailed color digital display in the instrument panel, while the Limited adds 19-inch wheels, a JBL audio system, and upgraded safety tech like blind-spot monitoring. The LE Plus is the best-value trim if you want a noticeable comfort upgrade without jumping all the way to the top.
• Powertrain: The base LE uses a 185-hp 2.7-liter inline 4-cylinder, but the 3.5-liter V6 is optional on the LE and standard on the LE Plus and above. The V6 makes 270 hp, pairs with a 6-speed automatic transmission, and is the better choice if you want stronger acceleration and more confident highway passing. Front-wheel-drive V6 trims are rated at 19 mpg city/25 highway, while I4 FWD trims get 20/25.
• Safety package: The Highlander comes standard with a backup camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and a full array of advanced front and side impact airbags. With the available pre-collision system, it is a 2014 Top Safety Pick Plus award winner. Other available driver-assistance features include lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert, with some of the upgraded safety tech reserved for higher trims.
• Infotainment: The Highlander uses the Entune multimedia touchscreen interface, which includes app access such as Pandora streaming radio, Yelp, and Bing. The base setup includes a 6.1-inch touchscreen, and navigation is available on higher trims, though it is accessed through the app page rather than a dedicated dash button. The live-pausing radio feature is a useful bonus if you value convenience.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 FWD trims are rated at 19 mpg city and 25 highway, while the I4 FWD trims are rated at 20 mpg city and 25 highway. An AWD V6 test trim was listed at 18 mpg city and 24 highway, and the review notes that real-world mixed driving came in just under 20 mpg.

Which 2014 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota Highlander is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, LE Plus, XLE, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Highlander experience with 8-passenger seating, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, a backup camera, Bluetooth, and lots of storage. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is also the trim where the feature gaps are most obvious.
• LE Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds three-zone climate control with rear climate toggles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and SofTex leatherette seating. If you want a more comfortable family SUV without paying for the upper trims, this is the sweet spot.
• XLE: This trim steps up with standard navigation, leather seating, and a detailed color digital display in the instrument panel. Choose it if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for it.
• Limited: This is the most fully equipped version, with 19-inch wheels, a JBL audio system, and upgraded safety tech like blind-spot monitoring. It is the right pick if you want the most features and the strongest convenience-and-safety mix.

The available pre-collision system is the key safety-package upgrade to look for, since it unlocks the model’s Top Safety Pick Plus recognition.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Highlander?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,263 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.51% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,942, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $15,543 sits slightly below last year's $15,944.

That kind of price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the Highlander’s strong reputation for reliability, comfort, and usefulness should help it stay appealing to future shoppers. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history should remain easier to move than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander safe?

The 2014 Toyota Highlander earns a Top Safety Pick Plus rating from IIHS when equipped with the available pre-collision system.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a backup camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and a full array of advanced front and side impact airbags. The available safety tech also includes lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. If you are shopping used, it is worth prioritizing examples with the pre-collision system and the other advanced driver-assistance features, since some of that equipment is trim-dependent.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.51% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 Highlander stands out for bringing more power, technology, and athletic styling to a family crossover while still feeling capable and competent for everyday use and weekend drives.

The bottom line: The 2014 Highlander is a smart choice if you want a family SUV that feels more engaging than the usual practical crossover and still delivers strong comfort, usefulness, and owner satisfaction. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may want to compare it with nearby years, but the 2014 remains appealing when you find a clean, well-equipped example with the safety features you want.
