Why it stands out
The 2014 Tesla Model S stands out as one of the cars that helped define the modern electric vehicle. It was revolutionary for offering more than 200 miles of EV range, a minimalist interior, and an exterior design shaped more by aerodynamics than fashion. It also arrived with an 85-kWh battery pack, a promised 265 miles of range, and a huge 17-inch infotainment screen, all of which made it feel far ahead of most rivals at the time.
What makes the 2014 Model S especially distinctive is how much technology it packed into a luxury sedan. The standard touchscreen controlled climate, entertainment, and vehicle functions, and the car lacked a stop/start button, instead turning on when the driver sat down and pressed the brake. It also came with heated front seats, leatherette seating surfaces, power-adjustable front seats, a seven-speaker 200-watt audio system, two USB ports, and unlimited free supercharging at Tesla’s Supercharger network. Buyers could also find factory options such as a panoramic glass roof, Nappa leather seats, premium audio, navigation, a backup camera, active air suspension, and rear-facing jump seats for children.
There are a few caveats, though. The Model S did not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and the buying guide notes poor build quality and a weird steering yoke in some models. Even so, the 2014 Tesla Model S remains appealing for its strong performance, advanced technology, and the sense that it was years ahead of the curve when it first arrived.

If this is not your primary vehicle, you will love it. If it needs services from Tesla you might have to wait a bit. Road handling and cabin is solid. That’s why overall it is a great second car or have a second car as a back up.

The car was great, everything I wanted. When it came down to it, it was a little outside my budget. But the car was outstanding. Low miles, no damage, premium leather seats, great sound system. Definitely a good buy.

Takes a while to learn all the capabilities. The car is continually improved via software downloads. The buying experience and driving experience is outstanding. Brakes should last 300,000 miles due to regenerative braking. The fuel cost (electricity) is about 25% of the gasoline cost to drive the same number of miles.

How much does the 2014 Tesla Model S cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,181 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,807 |
| Year-Round High | $15,744 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $14,986 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +1.30% |
Prices are up 1.30% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 250 listings available, which suggests a modest amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.
Is the 2014 Tesla Model S a good car?
Generally — the 4.17/5 user rating points to a strong ownership experience for this model year. Owners consistently praise its outstanding performance, modern features, premium sound system, and luxurious interior, while also appreciating the lower operating costs that come with electric driving. The overview also makes clear that this car is best suited to you if you want a tech-forward luxury sedan that feels ahead of its time rather than a conventional gas-powered alternative. With 24.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Tesla Model S reliable?
Owners rate it 4.17/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that many drivers find dependable enough to keep and enjoy over time, especially when they value the low running costs of electric ownership. At the same time, service availability and pricing come up as recurring concerns, so long-term ownership risk for used buyers is less about basic satisfaction and more about how well the car has been maintained and supported.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Tesla Model S?
At 74.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with accident records or other red flags. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention on overall condition, signs of prior repair work, and how well the car has been cared for. Because this model is technology-heavy, you should also focus on whether the features you care about work properly and whether the car presents as a well-kept example rather than just a low-price listing.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Tesla Model S?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.
- Deal availability: 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 250 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.30% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 74.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,807, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Tesla Model S's resale value?
The current average of $15,181 sits slightly above last year's $14,986.
That modest increase suggests the market has held up reasonably well, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. The price trend also indicates that buyers still place value on this model year’s mix of performance and technology, so well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. If you maintain the car carefully and keep documentation in order, you improve your odds of getting stronger interest when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.17/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Tesla Model S or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 24.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 74.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.30% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.17/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the 2014 Tesla Model S, it makes sense to focus on the best-maintained example you can find rather than chasing the cheapest one. The 2014 is a strong pick if you value its tech-forward character, performance, and ownership appeal, while price-sensitive buyers may want to compare nearby years to see whether a slightly newer example offers a better mix of condition and value.
