What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Subaru Impreza?

At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim you expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.0i comes with standard all-wheel drive, Bluetooth, heated front seats, USB and auxiliary input jacks, power windows, air conditioning, and 15-inch steel wheels. Higher trims add features like 16-inch alloys, upgraded audio, cruise control, chrome accents, a rear stabilizer bar, leather upholstery, automatic climate control, fog lights, and a rear-view camera, while the 5-door Sport trims add 17-inch alloy wheels, special interior fabric, and distinct rocker panels.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder Boxer engine with 148 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. A 5-speed manual is standard on most trims, while Limited models use a CVT with paddle shifters. The CVT is rated at 27 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.
• Safety package: The car includes 7 standard airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, and crash-optimized construction. A rear-view camera is available, but blind-spot monitoring and lane-departure warning are not part of the equipment list.
• Infotainment: The optional navigation system adds Aha smartphone integration, satellite radio, iTunes tagging, text-messaging assistance, and touchscreen controls. Bluetooth is standard, but the base setup is basic and the navigation system is only offered in Premium and Limited trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The CVT is rated at 27 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.

The 2014 Subaru Impreza is offered in 5 trim levels: 2.0i sedan, 2.0i Premium, 2.0i Limited, 2.0i Sport Premium, 2.0i Sport Limited.

Here's the short version:

• 2.0i sedan: This is the entry point, and it already gives you standard all-wheel drive, Bluetooth, heated front seats, USB and auxiliary input jacks, power windows, air conditioning, and 15-inch steel wheels. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Impreza’s core strengths.
• 2.0i Premium: This trim adds 16-inch alloys, upgraded audio, cruise control, chrome accents, and a rear stabilizer bar. It looks like the best-value choice if you want a more complete daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• 2.0i Limited: This is the most comfort- and convenience-focused sedan trim, with leather upholstery, automatic climate control, fog lights, a rear-view camera, HD radio, and a 4.3-inch center display screen. It suits you if you want the most polished non-sport sedan.
• 2.0i Sport Premium: This 5-door-only trim mirrors the Premium’s equipment but adds 17-inch alloy wheels, special interior fabric, and distinct rocker panels. It’s the pick if you want hatchback practicality with a little more visual distinction.
• 2.0i Sport Limited: This is the most equipped 5-door version, combining the Sport trim’s styling with the Limited’s comfort and tech upgrades. Choose it if you want the most content in the hatchback body style.

Should I buy a 2014 Subaru Impreza or consider a different year?

Choose the 2014 if:

• 30.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.92% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It pairs standard all-wheel drive with a practical, versatile layout.

Consider the 2015 if:

• It brings better interior amenities and a quieter cabin.

The bottom line: Choose the 2014 if you want the lower entry price and standard all-wheel drive, especially if you value practicality over polish. If you can stretch your budget, the 2015 is the better pick for a nicer cabin and improved day-to-day refinement.
