How much does the 2014 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 2.34% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,866 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable selection to compare.

Is the 2014 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Subaru Forester earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 6.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, reliability, smooth ride, and great fuel economy. That lines up well with its practical, high-riding crossover setup and its appeal as a midsize, 5-passenger vehicle that handles everyday use with confidence.

You should also expect a market with decent shopping opportunities, since 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2014 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to reliability, a dependable ownership experience, and a vehicle that many drivers feel good about keeping for the long haul. The expert review also emphasizes the Forester’s ability to keep moving through snow, ice, mud, and rain without fuss, which reinforces its reputation for being something you can count on.

The ownership risk for used buyers is mostly about condition and maintenance history, especially on higher-mileage examples or trims that have seen hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Subaru Forester?

At 62.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, worn interior materials, and any evidence that the car has been used hard in winter conditions or neglected on maintenance.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.5i starts at $21,995, while the 2.5i Premium adds a massive sunroof and roof rails. The cabin is simple and straightforward, but some lower trims may not feel especially solid.
• Powertrain: The 2.5i trims use a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter boxer 4-cylinder with 170 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or an available CVT. The turbocharged 2.0XT trims make 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, and X-Mode is standard on select higher trims.
• Safety package: Subaru EyeSight uses cameras and sensors to warn you about lane departure or an imminent crash. It is part of an option package for most trims.
• Infotainment: The touchscreen setup includes AM/FM/XM satellite radio and Bluetooth streaming audio, but the interface feels dated and the icons are small.

Which 2014 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2014 Subaru Forester is offered in 6 trim levels: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 2.5i Touring, 2.0XT Premium, 2.0XT Touring.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5i: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Forester formula at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the model’s all-weather capability and practical layout without paying for extras.
• 2.5i Premium: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a massive sunroof and roof rails while staying on the affordable side of the lineup.
• 2.5i Limited: This trim is a better fit if you want more equipment and also want X-Mode, which helps distribute torque more evenly in inclement terrain.
• 2.5i Touring: Choose this if you want a more fully equipped non-turbo Forester and value the added standard features.
• 2.0XT Premium: This is the pick if you want the stronger turbocharged engine and X-Mode without going all the way to the top trim.
• 2.0XT Touring: This is the most powerful and most upscale version in the lineup, with the turbo engine, X-Mode, and the most premium positioning.

The safety package is optional on most trims, so make sure the specific listing includes Subaru EyeSight if that matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,866 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.34% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,512, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $9,754 sits slightly below last year's $9,988.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than just model-year desirability.

Well-kept examples with strong service records should hold up better than neglected ones, especially because buyers in this segment tend to value practicality and confidence in bad weather.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2014 Subaru Forester is an incredibly safe vehicle in the way it puts traction and control first.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety equipment includes 7 airbags, a reinforced safety structure, vehicle dynamics control, antilock brakes, and electronic brakeforce distribution. Subaru EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and it uses cameras and sensors to warn you if you drift out of your lane or if a crash is imminent.

EyeSight is part of an option package for most trims, so you should confirm whether a specific used listing has it before you buy.

Should I buy a 2014 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.34% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 redesign brought stronger all-weather capability and a more versatile, high-riding wagon feel.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,079, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $9,754 average.
• It adds a stronger emphasis on value and safety, with a Top Safety Pick from IIHS.

The bottom line: If you want the lower purchase price and a broad used-car selection, the 2014 is the better starting point. If you can spend more and want the next model year’s added safety recognition and value positioning, the 2015 is worth a look.
