Why it stands out
The 2014 Nissan Maxima stands out as a well-equipped, V6-powered sedan that still leans into Nissan’s long-running “Four-door sports car” identity. It uses a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 290 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque, and the model’s handling remains a highlight thanks to its capable chassis and improved technology. Even so, it is not a true full-size sedan, and its back seat is no larger than a BMW 3 Series, so its appeal is more about style, performance, and equipment than outright space.
For 2014, the Maxima gained xenon headlights, a USB port, a 7-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, and satellite radio as standard equipment. That makes it especially appealing to buyers who want a used sedan with a strong feature set and a premium feel without paying luxury-car money. It also has a solid reliability record and low resale values, which helps make it a good value. The tradeoff is that, for all its handling goodness, it is not as responsive a driver as some sportier rivals, and its cabin and trunk are still on the small side for the class.

Great car! Awesome features. The only thing I plan to add is a remote starter and a rear spoiler. Runs like a dream!

This car that was purchased and found on CarGurus is exceptionally. Really nice car with good miles for the year and the price wasn’t bad.

I love the 2014 Nissan Maxima. Everything about it is great. I am single, but I would keep this car until I started a family. It has speed but also great space for everyone in the car to fit comfortably.

The car was as advertised and has already completed a couple of 200+ mile trips. The only thing it didn’t have, but I expected, was a USB port. An easy fix. We were looking at SUVs, but the trunk and fold down rear seat provide enough space. It rides and drives great and is smooth on the road. Great price.

How much does the 2014 Nissan Maxima cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $7,593 |
| Year-Round Low | $7,609.81 |
| Year-Round High | $8,237.94 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $8,221 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.64% |
Prices have softened 7.64% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 141 listings available, which gives you a useful amount of inventory to compare across price and condition.
If you find a listing below $7,609.81, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Nissan Maxima a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Nissan Maxima earns a 4.8/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Owners consistently praise its stylish design, comfortable interior, and impressive power. You also see repeated positives around the smooth ride and handling, especially during acceleration. For you, that makes it a strong fit if you want a used sedan that emphasizes style, performance, and equipment rather than maximum cabin space.
With 20.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find one that fits your budget well.
Is the 2014 Nissan Maxima reliable?
Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience, with praise centered on the car’s comfort, power, and overall drivability. That kind of repeat satisfaction usually suggests a model people feel good about keeping for the long haul.
For used buyers, the main risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t developed avoidable wear over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Maxima?
At 51.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history or incomplete service records. Focus your condition check on the transmission, rear handling behavior, and overall interior wear so you can judge whether the car still feels as solid as it should.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Maxima?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.
- Deal availability: 20.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 141 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.64% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 51.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $7,609.81, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Nissan Maxima's resale value?
The current average of $7,593 sits slightly below last year's $8,221.
That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable entry point, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless you choose a well-kept example. If you plan to sell later, condition and documentation will matter a lot because buyers tend to pay more for cars that feel cared for and easy to trust.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Maxima or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 20.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 51.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.64% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a used sedan with strong owner approval, a premium feel, and pricing that has moved in your favor, the 2014 is the primary year to target. If your priority is stretching your budget as far as possible, you should still compare individual listings closely and lean toward the cleanest, best-documented car rather than chasing the lowest sticker price alone.
