overall

Summary
With 1,338 currently listed for sale and an average price of $7,755.00, 24.5% of 2014 Nissan Altimas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Nissan Altima 3.83 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2014 Nissan Altima stands out as a midsize family sedan that prioritizes the basics well. It is described as safe, fuel-efficient, comfortable, and affordable, which makes it appealing to buyers who want a practical daily driver rather than an engaging one. It also earns its place among America’s best-selling models, suggesting broad mainstream appeal.
At the same time, the 2014 Altima is not presented as a car for drivers seeking excitement. The test-drive impression says there is nothing joyful associated with driving it, and that the latest version is not particularly engaging to drive. Even so, it remains a sensible choice for shoppers who value comfort and efficiency, with some room for additional refinement.

I have owned many cars in the past including last a 2010 Acura TL. After renting a Nissan Altima and driving it round trip over 1200 miles for a trip I was sold and got rid of my Acura and brought the 2014 Nissan Altima S with the Sport Value Package. I absolutely love the gas mileage I get from it I easily go all highway driving over 600 miles before needing gas and the features are great for me not too many not too few features. I think it has a great ride and looks impressive. I get lots of comments on it and so far after purchasing it in mid September I have only had oil changes necessary and anticipate no problems in the future.

This is a very comfortable car—more comfortable and more fun to drive than a Toyota Camry. This is a good car for commuters because of the comfort and the fuel efficiency. I also own a 2010 Nissan Altima, and I have had that one for 5.5 years. It has 130,000 miles on it, and I have never had mechanical problems with it. On paper, the Camry and accord look like more reliable cars than the Altima, but the used Altimas really are much more affordable, more comfortable, and (as I said) I certainly have not had reliability issues with Altima so far.

Is the 2014 Nissan Altima a good car?
With a 3.83/5 user rating and an expert score of 7.83/10, the 2014 Altima looks like a practical pick rather than an enthusiast choice.
The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.
Owners most often praise its comfort, stylish interior, and fuel efficiency, and the sound system also gets strong marks. That lines up with the car’s role as a sensible daily driver for commuters and families who want comfort and efficiency over excitement.
The 2014 Altima fits shoppers who want a practical midsize sedan that is safe, affordable, and easy to live with. With 24.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Nissan Altima reliable?
The 2014 Altima is presented as a cost-conscious sedan with mixed reliability signals, so you should focus on condition and maintenance history.
Owners describe it as a car they can count on for comfort and efficiency, though some also mention repairs that have affected their confidence in long-term ownership. The expert evaluation also points to better-than-average dependability over time, while noting that some outside assessments have been less favorable.
The 4-cylinder engine and CVT help keep ownership simple and efficient, and the car is described as a strong value for long-term expenses. If you buy used, the main risk is that a neglected example could turn those ownership savings into repair costs.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Altima?
At 47.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows uneven wear. Pay close attention to body condition, interior wear, and how the car drives, since the Altima’s value depends heavily on getting a clean, well-kept example.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base trim leaves out some convenience and tech features, while higher trims add items like a power driver’s seat, passive entry, dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera, leather, heated seats, and more upscale cabin touches.
- Powertrain: The 2.5-liter 4-cylinder pairs with a CVT and is tuned for efficiency, while the V6 adds quicker acceleration and paddle shifters but uses more fuel.
- Safety package: The available Technology Package adds navigation, Moving-Object Detection, Blind-Spot Warning, and Lane-Departure Warning, with those features tied to SV and SL trims.
- Infotainment: Most versions use NissanConnect Apps with a 5-inch touchscreen, while the navigation-equipped setup uses a larger 7-inch display.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5 returns 31 mpg in combined driving, while the 3.5 returns 25 mpg.
Which 2014 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?
The 2014 Nissan Altima is offered in 6 trim levels: 2.5 S, 2.5 SV, 2.5 SL, 3.5 S, 3.5 SV, 3.5 SL.
Here's the short version:
- 2.5 S: This is the entry point, but it already adds useful everyday equipment like cruise control, a power driver’s seat, extra speakers, passive entry, and other convenience upgrades. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the Altima without going fully bare-bones.
- 2.5 SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds 17-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, a reversing camera, NissanConnect Apps, and remote engine start. If you want the strongest mix of comfort, tech, and price, this is the trim to target.
- 2.5 SL: This is the most comfort-focused 4-cylinder trim, with leather, a Bose audio system, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and more upscale interior details. Choose it if you want a more premium daily driver.
- 3.5 S: This trim swaps in the V6 and adds paddle shifters and 18-inch wheels, so it is the pick if you care more about stronger acceleration than fuel economy.
- 3.5 SV: This adds the V6 plus the 2.5 SV’s equipment, along with a sunroof and other convenience upgrades. It suits you if you want the stronger engine and a richer feature set.
- 3.5 SL: This is the top trim and adds high-intensity discharge headlights to the 3.5 SL’s already upscale equipment. It is the most fully equipped choice if you want the V6 and the most premium presentation.
The safety package is available on SV and SL trims, so if those driver-assistance features matter to you, avoid the lower trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Altima?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,396 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.20% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 47.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $7,630.55, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Nissan Altima's resale value?
The current average of $7,638 sits slightly below last year's $8,230.
That price movement suggests the Altima has become more affordable for buyers, but it also means sellers may face a softer market than they did a year ago. If you plan to resell later, a clean history and strong maintenance records will matter more because buyers are likely to be selective.
The current trend also points to a model that is holding to a practical value band rather than surging upward. For you, that means buying well now can help protect your future resale position.
Is the 2014 Nissan Altima safe?
The 2014 Altima gets a five-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is called a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The available Technology Package adds navigation, Moving-Object Detection, Blind-Spot Warning, and Lane-Departure Warning, and those features are available on SV and SL trims. The Lane-Departure Warning and Moving-Object Detection systems are described as helpful, while the Blind-Spot Warning system is less convincing because its alert placement and warnings could be more noticeable.
Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 24.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 47.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.20% compared with last year.
- The 2014 is safe, fuel-efficient, comfortable, and affordable, with broad mainstream appeal.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $8,350, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $7,638 average.
- It adds more responsive handling and a more engaging all-around driving character.
The bottom line: If you want the lower-priced, practical choice, the 2014 makes sense. If you can spend more for a newer Altima with a more engaging feel, the 2015 is the better path. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2014 is the value play; for shoppers who want a bit more driving polish, look to the next year.
