What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Nissan Altima?

At 45.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has incomplete service records or visible cosmetic repairs. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven wear, and any evidence that the car’s comfort or electronics have been neglected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.5 trim is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add features such as cruise control, a power driver’s seat, additional speakers, passive entry, dual-zone climate control, a touchscreen interface, a reversing camera, leather seating, heated features, and premium audio.
• Powertrain: The 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 182 hp, while the 3.5-liter V6 makes 270 hp and brings quicker acceleration at the cost of fuel economy. Both use a CVT, and the four-cylinder is the efficiency-focused choice.
• Safety package: The Technology Package adds navigation, Moving-Object Detection, Blind-Spot Warning, and Lane-Departure Warning on SV and SL trims. Those features are not part of the base setup.
• Infotainment: Most versions use a 5-inch touchscreen, while the navigation-equipped setup gets a 7-inch display. NissanConnect Apps, Bluetooth-based app access, hands-free texting, and smartphone integration are part of the tech story.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder returns 31 mpg in combined driving, and the test car achieved 28.5 mpg in heavy suburban use. The V6 is rated at 25 mpg combined.

Which 2014 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2014 Nissan Altima is offered in 6 trim levels: 2.5, 2.5 S, 2.5 SV, 2.5 SL, 3.5 S, 3.5 SV, 3.5 SL.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5: This is the simplest entry point, but it leaves out several convenience and tech features that make the higher trims easier to live with.
• 2.5 S: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds cruise control, a power driver’s seat, extra speakers, and passive entry without jumping too far in price.
• 2.5 SV: This is the sweet spot if you want the most useful everyday upgrades, including dual-zone climate control, a touchscreen, a reversing camera, and NissanConnect Apps.
• 2.5 SL: This is the comfort-and-luxury choice, with leather, heated features, premium audio, and more upscale cabin equipment.
• 3.5 S: Choose this if you want the V6’s extra power and paddle shifters, but you’re willing to give up some efficiency.
• 3.5 SV: This adds more convenience and comfort equipment on top of the V6 setup, making it the more upscale six-cylinder pick.
• 3.5 SL: This is the top-end V6 trim, adding high-intensity discharge headlights to the already well-equipped SL formula.

The Technology Package is limited to SV and SL trims, so if those safety and convenience features matter to you, avoid the lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Nissan Altima?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,385 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.93% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 45.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,451, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $7,451 sits slightly below last year's $8,093.

That price movement suggests the Altima has softened enough to help you as a buyer today, but it also means a future seller may face a more competitive resale environment. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you can help protect value better than the market trend alone would suggest. Higher-trim, well-maintained examples should be easier to justify than neglected ones.

Is the 2014 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2014 Altima gets a five-star crash-test rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is called a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Technology Package adds navigation, Moving-Object Detection, Blind-Spot Warning, and Lane-Departure Warning on SV and SL trims. The Lane-Departure Warning and Moving-Object Detection systems are helpful, while the Blind-Spot Warning system is less intuitive than it should be.

Should I buy a 2014 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 28.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 45.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Prices have softened 7.93% compared with last year.
• The 2014 stands out as safe, fuel-efficient, comfortable, and affordable.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,046, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $7,451 average.
• It adds more responsive handling.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2014 if your priority is value and you want a comfortable, efficient family sedan at a lower price. If you can spend more for a slightly newer model and want sharper handling, the 2015 is the better alternative.

How does the 2014 Nissan Altima compare to the 2014 Toyota Camry?

Our experts score the 2014 Nissan Altima 7.8/10 and the 2014 Toyota Camry 7.5/10.

The Altima gives you a lower average used price, better city and highway fuel economy, and a stronger expert score. The Camry is priced higher on the used market, but it has slightly more listings and a marginally better accident-free share. If you want the better value proposition, the Altima is the stronger pick; if you want a broader shopping pool, the Camry has a slight edge there.
