CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
overall

Summary
With 1,076 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,841, 32.8% of 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.17 / 10.
56.2% of 2014 E-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out as a midsize luxury sedan that blends comfort, premium construction, and capable dynamics. In test driving, it showed that the faster it goes, the more dynamic its performance becomes, even without the optional sport suspension. It is also described as a safe, comfortable, and dynamically capable machine built from premium materials and equipped with industry-leading technology.
Its appeal is tied to the Mercedes-Benz image as much as to the car itself, since the E-Class is presented as an aspirational symbol of personal success and the most popular midsize luxury sedan in America. At the same time, its value proposition is said to weaken if the Mercedes-Benz badge is removed, and the car is characterized as somewhat bland. Owner feedback generally reinforces the luxury-and-performance mix, with praise for its features, acceleration, handling, and interior quality, while some drivers wish for firmer body control and less softness in the ride.

There are 1,080 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.78/5 user rating and 6.17/10 expert rating both point to a well-liked used luxury sedan. The standout strength is Performance at 8/10.
Owners consistently praise the luxury features, strong performance, stylish design, handling, acceleration, and interior quality. That lines up with the E-Class’s role as a midsize luxury sedan that blends comfort, premium construction, and capable dynamics, especially if you want a car that feels upscale and confident rather than flashy.
The market also shows 33.5% of listings priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a car that feels dependable and trouble-free enough to earn praise for its luxury-and-performance balance, while the expert evaluation says reliability should prove better than average over time.
The driving impression reinforces that sense of durability: the car feels solid, steady, and resolute at speed, with a composed highway manner and premium construction. Cost-conscious ownership is still a consideration, though, so you should expect a used luxury-car ownership profile rather than a low-maintenance commuter experience.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible wear. Pay close attention to interior condition, trim fit, and any signs of squeaks or rattles, since those are the kinds of issues that can matter more in a used luxury sedan. It also helps to confirm that the equipment you want is actually present, because this model could be optioned in many different ways.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The E-Class Sedan lineup includes the E250 BlueTec, E350, E400 Hybrid, E550 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, and E63 AMG S 4Matic. The E250 BlueTec and E350 can be optioned with 4Matic all-wheel drive, while the E400 Hybrid and E550 4Matic wear the more upscale appearance theme, and the AMG versions add more standard equipment plus exclusive upgrades. If you want the best value, the E350 is the most balanced starting point, while the AMG models suit buyers who want the most performance and equipment.
- Powertrain: The E350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with a 7-speed automatic and all-wheel drive in the test car, rated at 302 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Mercedes also offers Eco and Normal engine calibrations, plus Eco and Sport transmission modes. The E250 BlueTec is the fuel-economy choice, while the E550 and AMG models are the performance-oriented options.
- Safety package: Safety equipment is grouped into the Lane Tracking Package, which includes Blind Spot Assist and Lane Keeping Assist, and the Driver Assistance Package, which adds active versions of Lane Tracking features plus Distronic Plus cruise control with Steering Assist, Pre-Safe Brake with Pedestrian Detection, Pre-Safe Plus, and Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist. Some of these features are optional rather than standard, so verify what the specific car has.
- Infotainment: The cabin uses the COMAND system, and the test car’s display was described as small. Available equipment includes a hard-drive navigation system, Bluetooth, mBrace2 telematics, and Mercedes-Benz Apps, but the system can be fussy to operate.
- Fuel efficiency: The E350 4Matic is rated at 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The test car averaged 20.3 mpg, and the E250 BlueTec is the better choice if fuel economy matters most.
Which 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 6 trim levels: E250 BlueTec, E350, E400 Hybrid, E550 4Matic, E63 AMG 4Matic, and E63 AMG S 4Matic.
Here's the short version:
- E250 BlueTec: This is the efficiency-focused choice, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest fuel-use emphasis in the lineup.
- E350: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it sits at the center of the range and gives you the core E-Class experience without moving into the pricier performance or hybrid variants.
- E400 Hybrid: Choose this if you want a more upscale powertrain mix and a step up from the base six-cylinder setup.
- E550 4Matic: This is the stronger luxury-performance pick if you want more power and all-wheel drive.
- E63 AMG 4Matic: This is the performance-focused choice for buyers who want the AMG character and the extra standard equipment that comes with it.
- E63 AMG S 4Matic: Pick this only if you want the most aggressive, highest-output version in the lineup.
Safety equipment is packaged into the relatively simple Lane Tracking Package and the more complex Driver Assistance Package, so check carefully for those features on any used example.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,080 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.70% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,484, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $12,846 sits slightly below last year's $13,479.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the current trend implies you should expect value to remain sensitive to condition, mileage, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable options should hold up better than cars with visible wear or incomplete service history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class benefits from significant upgrades to its safety technology, packaged under the Intelligent Drive umbrella.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety setup includes Collision Prevention Assist and an improved Attention Assist system. Available driver-assistance features include Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Pre-Safe Brake, and Pre-Safe Plus. Some of these systems are optional, so you should verify exactly which package a used car has before you buy.
Should I buy a 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.70% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 model year stands out for its upgraded safety technology under the Intelligent Drive umbrella.
The bottom line: If you want a used E-Class with strong owner satisfaction, a lower average price, and a broad pool of listings, the 2014 is a sensible place to shop. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the cleanest examples near the low end of the range and verify equipment and history carefully before you commit.
