Is the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 reliable?

The expert review adds that the car is exceptionally engineered and refined, with mechanical components that rarely call attention to themselves.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Mazda MAZDA3?

At 54.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or a car with visible cosmetic wear. Focus on signs of prior body repair, uneven panel gaps, tire wear, and any missing convenience features that matter to you.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans sedan and hatchback body styles, with i and s designations, and the Touring trim adds aluminum wheels, heated side mirrors, keyless passive entry with push-button start, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and nicer interior and exterior trim. It also unlocks many desirable options, while Grand Touring models add leatherette upholstery, a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and more upscale equipment.
• Powertrain: The more affordable models use a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 155 horsepower and either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. The more powerful 2.5-liter 4-cylinder in the s models makes 184 hp and comes with a 6-speed automatic, but it costs more and is less fuel-efficient.
• Safety package: Touring models include Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, while Grand Touring models add a reversing camera and E911 Automatic Emergency Notification service. Lane Departure Warning and Smart City Brake Support are reserved for the s Grand Touring models.
• Infotainment: Mazda Connect uses a 7-inch touchscreen with a rotary controller, and it includes smartphone integration, text-messaging capability, E911 service, and access to Aha, Pandora, and Stitcher. Higher trims or option packages are needed for features like navigation and the Bose audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0-liter engine is described as delivering excellent fuel economy, and the review says owners should be able to easily extract better than 30 mpg out of the car. The 2.5-liter engine is less fuel-efficient.

Which 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 trim should I buy?

The 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 is offered in 4 trim levels: SV, Sport, Touring, Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• SV: This is the simplest path into the lineup if you want the Mazda 3’s core driving character and styling without paying for extra equipment. It makes sense if your priority is value and you do not need the added convenience and safety features found higher up.
• Sport: This is the better-value choice if you want a more complete everyday setup without jumping too far up the price ladder. It keeps the car accessible while leaving room to add select options if you want more tech.
• Touring: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds key convenience and safety upgrades, including Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, plus keyless passive entry with push-button start. It also unlocks many of the car’s most desirable options.
• Grand Touring: Choose this if you want the most upscale version of the car, with leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, a power driver’s seat, and additional safety and lighting upgrades. It is the right pick if you want the most premium-feeling compact in the lineup.

Safety-package features are concentrated in the Touring and Grand Touring trims, so those are the ones to target if driver-assistance equipment matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Mazda MAZDA3?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 614 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.41% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 54.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,637, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3's resale value?

The current average of $10,035 sits slightly below last year's $10,283.

That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. The current range also shows that well-kept examples still have room to hold value better than neglected ones.

If you maintain the car well and keep the history clean, you should have a better shot at stronger resale demand later. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 safe?

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Many of the car’s safety features are tied to trim level. Touring models add Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Grand Touring models add a reversing camera and E911 Automatic Emergency Notification service, and the s Grand Touring models add Lane Departure Warning and Smart City Brake Support.

That means you should pay close attention to trim if safety tech matters to you. If you want the most advanced driver-assistance content in this model year, the higher trims are the ones to target.

Should I buy a 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 29.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.41% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its redesigned look, broad trim and equipment variety, and especially strong driving character.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,026, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,035 average.
• It is described as a more upscale-feeling all-rounder with strong refinement, practicality, safety ratings, and reliability.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because pricing has softened and the model still scores well with owners and experts. If you are willing to spend more for a newer-year feel and a more polished all-around package, the 2015 is the stronger upgrade path.

How does the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 compare to the 2014 Honda Civic?

Our experts score the 2014 Mazda MAZDA3 8.8/10 and the 2014 Honda Civic 8.2/10.

The Mazda gives you the stronger expert score, the better fuel economy, and the more engaging driving character. The Civic counters with a higher average used price, more listings, and a slightly better good-and-great deal share, but the Mazda is the more compelling pick if you care most about driving enjoyment and value.
