Is the 2014 Kia Soul reliable?

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Kia Soul?

At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. Because owner feedback mentions minor cosmetic issues such as dents, it makes sense to focus on overall condition as much as mileage and equipment. A careful test drive should also confirm that the car still feels smooth and that all features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim includes a multifunction steering wheel, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, SiriusXM satellite radio, and USB/auxiliary audio inputs. The Plus adds mirror-mounted LED turn signals, remote keyless entry, and 17-inch alloy wheels. The Exclaim adds 18-inch alloys, a backup camera, UVO connectivity services, and a chilled glovebox. If you want the best value, the Plus is the most balanced step up, while the base trim is the most budget-friendly.
• Powertrain: The base trim uses a 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder with 130 hp. The Plus and Exclaim use a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder with 164 hp. The smaller engine returns 24 mpg city and 30 highway, while the larger engine returns 23 mpg city and 31 highway.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, electronic brakeforce distribution, a tire pressure monitoring system, side impact door beams, and front and rear crumple zones. A backup camera is included on uprated models.
• Infotainment: All trims come with USB/auxiliary jacks, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, and a 6-speaker audio system with A-pillar-mounted tweeters. The available system centers on an 8-inch touchscreen and adds voice-command navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine returns 24 mpg city and 30 highway, while the 2.0-liter engine returns 23 mpg city and 31 highway.

Which 2014 Kia Soul trim should I buy?

The 2014 Kia Soul is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Plus (+), Exclaim (!).

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want standard Bluetooth, satellite radio, and USB/aux inputs. It makes the most sense if you care more about affordability than extra convenience features.
• Plus (+): This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds remote keyless entry, 17-inch alloy wheels, and the stronger 2.0-liter engine. It gives you the best mix of equipment and everyday usability without jumping to the top trim.
• Exclaim (!): Choose this if you want the most features, including 18-inch alloys, a backup camera, UVO connectivity services, and a chilled glovebox. It is the right pick if you want the most upscale version of the Soul.

The safety content notes that uprated models feature a backup camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Kia Soul?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 852 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.84% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $6,817, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Kia Soul's resale value?

The current average of $6,924 sits slightly below last year's $7,200.

That price movement suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy more confidently now but may limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price and keep the car in clean condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. The Soul’s broad appeal and value-oriented reputation should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Kia Soul safe?

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The Soul comes standard with a full complement of front- and side-impact airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, electronic brakeforce distribution, a tire pressure monitoring system, side impact door beams, and front and rear crumple zones. Uprated models feature a backup camera, and the upright design helps provide better sight lines than many competitors.

Should I buy a 2014 Kia Soul or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.84% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its strong technology and value, with an especially high expert technology score.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $7,813, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $6,924 average.
• It adds more power and extra safety and utility refinements.

The bottom line: If you want the lower-priced, value-forward choice, the 2014 is the better starting point. If you can stretch your budget and want a newer Soul with more polish and added upgrades, the 2015 is the better long-term pick.
