What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Kia Soul?

At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, especially if the listing photos or description hint at cosmetic wear. Focus on overall condition, because owner feedback suggests some cars may show minor dents even when they continue to run well.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim includes a multifunction steering wheel, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, SiriusXM satellite radio, and USB/auxiliary audio inputs, while Plus adds mirror-mounted LED turn signals, remote keyless entry, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Exclaim adds 18-inch alloys, a backup camera, UVO connectivity services, and a chilled glovebox, making it the best-value choice if you want the most equipment.
• Powertrain: The base trim uses a 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder with 130 hp, while Plus and Exclaim use a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder with 164 hp. The smaller engine returns 24 mpg city and 30 highway, and the larger engine returns 23 mpg city and 31 highway.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, full-length side curtain airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, electronic brakeforce distribution, a tire pressure monitoring system, side impact door beams, and front and rear crumple zones. Uprated models add a backup camera.
• Infotainment: All trims come with USB/auxiliary jacks, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, and a 6-speaker audio system with A-pillar-mounted tweeters. The available system centers on an 8-inch touchscreen and includes voice-command navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The base engine returns 24 mpg city and 30 highway, while the 2.0-liter engine returns 23 mpg city and 31 highway.

Which 2014 Kia Soul trim should I buy?

The 2014 Kia Soul is offered in 3 trim levels: base, Plus (+), and Exclaim (!).

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want standard Bluetooth, SiriusXM, USB/auxiliary inputs, and a multifunction steering wheel. It makes the most sense if you care more about affordability and core usefulness than extra convenience features.
• Plus (+): This trim adds remote keyless entry, mirror-mounted LED turn signals, and 17-inch alloy wheels, along with the stronger 2.0-liter engine. It is the best-value trim if you want a better mix of features and performance without jumping to the top model.
• Exclaim (!): This is the most feature-rich version, with 18-inch alloys, a backup camera, UVO connectivity services, and a chilled glovebox. Choose it if you want the most equipment and the most upscale feel in the lineup.

The safety content highlights a strong standard safety foundation, with the backup camera added on uprated models.

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 856 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.82% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 60.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $6,817, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Kia Soul's resale value?

The current average of $6,879 sits slightly below last year's $7,079.

That softer pricing suggests the model has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can help you if you're shopping now but may limit upside if you're planning to resell soon. Still, the current market shows enough demand and inventory movement to support a reasonably stable used-car value. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, you should be able to protect a fair share of its value over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2014 Kia Soul or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 28.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.82% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It stands out for useful tech and a personality-rich daily-driver feel.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $7,878, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $6,879 average.
• It adds more of the upgrades buyers may want, along with broader value and refinement.

The bottom line: If you want the lower price and a strong mix of personality, tech, and everyday usefulness, the 2014 is the better buy. If you can stretch for the next year and want a more polished package with added upgrades, the 2015 is worth considering.

How does the 2014 Kia Soul compare to the 2014 Ford Fiesta?

Our experts score the 2014 Kia Soul 8/10 and the 2014 Ford Fiesta 7.7/10.

The Soul gives you more interior space, stronger standard tech, and a more distinctive personality, while the Fiesta leans toward better fuel economy and a lower average used price. If you want the more practical and feature-rich choice, the Soul has the edge; if efficiency and lower cost matter most, the Fiesta is the leaner pick.
