overall

Summary
With 250 currently listed for sale and an average price of $6,652.00, 23.6% of 2014 Kia Fortes for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Kia Forte 4.6 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2014 Kia Forte stands out as a much more complete and competitive small car than its predecessor. It brings together style, space, efficiency, and in-car tech in a package that can sit alongside the best in the segment, while its interior aesthetic is described as head-of-the-class. That combination makes it appealing to buyers who want an everyday car that feels more polished than a basic commuter.
It is also presented as a practical choice for daily driving, with a layout and functionality that support that role well. Owner feedback reinforces that impression, with praise for reliability, fuel efficiency, comfort, and a spacious trunk. The main drawback noted by owners is a lightweight feel that can bring extra noise and a sense of fragility, so the Forte’s strengths are balanced by some concerns about refinement.

The car is a good, perhaps, great value. It runs well, is comfortable, is not noisy. The radio is acceptable quality but not great. The controls for everything are easy. It is a bit of a tin can. You can hear the lightweightness when you slam a door or pop the hood. But this is probably how it gets good gas mileage. The clear cut on mine is starting to bubble in small places; however, it does not have rust that I can detect on the body. Overall, Im happy with it.

How much does the 2014 Kia Forte cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $6,681 |
| Year-Round Low | $6,462.94 |
| Year-Round High | $7,058.05 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $7,063 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −5.40% |
Prices have softened 5.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 240 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $6,462.94, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Kia Forte a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Kia Forte earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, and comfort, and they also like the spacious trunk. The overview points to a practical daily driver with a more polished feel than a basic commuter, which lines up with the strong owner feedback.
With 25.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a reasonable chance of finding strong value if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Kia Forte reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback repeatedly highlights reliability, and the same summary also points to fuel efficiency and comfort as reasons people feel good about living with it. The expert drive notes that Kia had moved the Forte into a much more competitive place, which supports the sense that this is a more mature and dependable small car than the earlier version.
The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that lightweight feel and refinement concerns can show up as extra noise or a less solid impression over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Kia Forte?
At 52.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, alignment, and signs of prior repair. Because accident history is common enough to matter here, condition should carry extra weight in your decision. It also helps to focus on how the car feels on the road, since owner feedback points to a lightweight character that can bring more noise and a sense of fragility.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the more basic setup, while the EX adds a more upscale interior feel, faux carbon-fiber accents, leather seats, and a more polished cabin presentation.
- Powertrain: The LX uses a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder with 148 horsepower and 131 lb-ft of torque, while the EX upgrades to a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 173 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque. The EX also pairs with a 6-speed automatic with tap-shifting.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes front impact and side curtain airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, braking assist, hill assist control, electronic brakeforce distribution, front and rear crumple zones, side-impact door beams, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
- Infotainment: Bluetooth is standard, and UVO is standard on the EX but unavailable on the LX. The system uses a vibrant color touchscreen and supports voice-activated navigation.
- Fuel efficiency: The 1.8-liter engine returns 25 mpg city/37 highway with the manual transmission and 25/36 with the automatic. The 2.0-liter EX returns 24/36, with a 27.8 mpg combined rating.
Which 2014 Kia Forte trim should I buy?
The 2014 Kia Forte is offered in 2 trim levels: LX, EX.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and are comfortable with the simpler setup. It gets the 1.8-liter engine, standard Bluetooth, and the core Forte formula without the extra polish of the higher trim.
- EX: This is the best-value trim if you want the Forte to feel more complete. It adds the stronger 2.0-liter engine, UVO infotainment, a more attractive interior, and leather seating, making it the trim that best matches the car’s strengths.
The EX is the trim that most clearly benefits from the Forte’s safety and tech packaging, while the LX makes the most sense if your priority is keeping purchase price down.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Kia Forte?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 25.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 240 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.40% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 52.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $6,462.94, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Kia Forte's resale value?
The current average of $6,681 sits slightly below last year's $7,063.
That softer pricing suggests the Forte has become easier to buy, but it also means a future seller may face some pressure if the market stays loose. If you buy well now, you may have less room for appreciation later, so condition and purchase price matter a lot. A clean, well-kept example should still be easier to move than one with accident history or visible wear.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Kia Forte safe?
In crash testing by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Forte earned a rating of Good for side impact, roof strength and moderate frontal offset tests. In the same round of tests, the Forte earned a Poor rating for small-overlap frontal offset crashes, in which the vehicle’s front corner would collide with a tree or utility pole at speeds of 40 mph. The IIHS named the Kia Forte a Top Safety Pick.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Forte comes equipped with a host of front impact and side curtain airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, electronic stability control, traction control, braking assist, hill assist control, electronic brakeforce distribution, front and rear crumple zones, side-impact door beams and a tire pressure monitoring system.
That poor small-overlap result is the main safety caveat for used shoppers, so you should weigh crash performance carefully if safety is a top priority.
Should I buy a 2014 Kia Forte or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 25.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 52.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.40% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 is a much more complete and competitive compact than its predecessor, with style, space, efficiency, and in-car tech.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $7,121, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $6,681 average.
- It offers more equipment if you are willing to spend more.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2014 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and solid feature content. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2015 may appeal, but the 2014 already delivers the core Forte strengths at a more attractive price.
