CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Jeep Wrangler
overall

Summary
With 440 currently listed for sale near New York, NY and an average price of $13,434.00, 15.7% of 2014 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Jeep Wrangler 4.62 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7 / 10.
60.2% of 2014 Wrangler models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Jeep Wrangler stands out because it is built to go just about anywhere at just about any time, and it does so at a surprisingly affordable price. That combination makes it appealing to buyers who want a rugged American icon with real off-road ability rather than a polished everyday crossover.
Its biggest strength is also its biggest tradeoff: the Wrangler’s uncompromised off-roading capability comes with all kinds of compromise during the daily drive. It demands attention all the time, and that can make the experience feel brilliant to some drivers and ridiculous to others. For shoppers who value adventure and capability more than comfort, refinement, or easy commuting, that character is exactly what makes it distinctive.

I am totally impressed with the Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited. It is more than I expected. The vehicle has a very new feeling and seems showroom fresh. The leather is still great smelling and looks new. The Jeep is easy to see out of, despite being a four door. The driving feels strong and stable and the visibility in all directions is easy. The controls are within easy reach and it has a great many cup holders and plug ins for electronics. This was a great purchase. I specifically wanted a Wrangler and I am very pleased. There are no disappointments.

Reviewed a 2014 Jeep Sport 4WD on May 3, 2014
This is the most fun vehicle I've ever driven. It has plenty of power to get around and enough to be fun off-road, but it is by no means fast. It takes a while to unzip the windows and put the top down, but it gets easier and quicker the more you do it. It brings a smile to my face every time I drive it. Off-roading with a 2" lift and 35" Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires, it was able to conquer most obstacles with ease. Modifications so far include Superlift 2" spacer lift, JKS adjustable track bars, Magnaflow exhaust, 315/75-16 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires, 16" Level8 wheels, Body Armor 4x4 side bars, Rugged Ridge tail lamp guards, and carpet removed and floor sprayed with truck bed liner.

How much does the 2014 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,610 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,610.18 |
| Year-Round High | $16,791.52 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,795 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.06% |
Prices have softened 7.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,193 listings available, which suggests you have meaningful inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $15,610.18, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Yes — 4.62/5 owners rate it, and the expert score is 7.00/10. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its ruggedness, power, and versatile driving experience, especially when you want something fun and capable off-road. The overview also frames it as a fit for buyers who value adventure and capability more than comfort, refinement, or easy commuting.
With 29.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle that feels fun, capable, rugged, and dependable enough to inspire repeat enthusiasm, especially when you use it the way it was intended. The expert review also emphasizes that customer complaints have dwindled since Jeep’s reboot, which supports the idea that this is a more settled ownership proposition than older versions.
It also helps that Jeep says the Wrangler is moving quickly off showroom floors, which can reinforce confidence in long-term demand and parts support. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about whether it can last and more about whether you can live with its compromises over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Jeep Wrangler?
At 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body condition, structural clues, and signs of hard use. Because this model is built for serious off-road driving, you should also pay close attention to wear that could come from trail use, not just normal commuting. If you’re comparing multiple listings, focus on how each one has been maintained and whether its condition matches the seller’s story.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The standard Wrangler lineup includes two-door and four-door body styles, and the base setup is intentionally sparse. You get the core Wrangler formula, but the more equipped versions add comfort and convenience features that matter if you want less of a stripped-down experience.
- Powertrain: Every version uses a 3.6-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic. It is tuned for off-road ability first, and it returns 18 mpg in combined driving.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes dual front airbags, antilock brakes with brake assist, hill-start assist, traction control with a special 4-Lo setting, stability control with electronic roll mitigation, and trailer sway control. Front-seat side-impact airbags are optional.
- Infotainment: Available tech includes a 6.5-inch color touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, and navigation. The cabin also offers automatic climate control, heated front seats, and a premium audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: The Wrangler is rated at 18 mpg in combined driving, and a loaded Unlimited returned 17.1 mpg during testing.
Which 2014 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2014 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Sahara, Rubicon, Rubicon X.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the value play if you want the Wrangler experience at the lowest entry point. It gives you the core off-road hardware and the basic Jeep character, and it can be a smart pick if you care more about capability than comfort features.
- Sahara: This trim suits you if you want a more polished daily experience without giving up the Wrangler’s identity. It is the better choice when you want a little more comfort and a softer overall feel than the more hardcore versions.
- Rubicon: This is the best-value trim if your priority is serious trail performance. It adds the mechanical hardware that makes the Wrangler especially capable off road, including locking differentials, a sway-bar disconnect system, and a Rock-Trac transfer case.
- Rubicon X: Choose this if you want the most aggressive factory setup and extra hardware for serious off-road use. It adds a winch-ready steel front bumper, a steel rear bumper, and larger rock rails.
The Rubicon trim is the one to focus on if you want the strongest off-road package, while the Sahara is the better fit if you want a more livable daily driver.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Jeep Wrangler?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep discounts everywhere.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,193 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.06% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,610.18, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $15,610 sits slightly below last year's $16,795.
That price movement suggests the Wrangler has become a bit more buyer-friendly in the near term, which can help you if you buy now and hold for a while. Because the model still has strong enthusiast appeal, especially among shoppers who want real off-road capability, demand should remain steadier than for many ordinary SUVs. If you keep the vehicle in good condition and avoid heavy abuse, that kind of niche appeal can help support future resale interest.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler safe?
The standard Wrangler 2-door gets a Good rating in the IIHS moderate overlap frontal-impact test, a Marginal rating in small overlap frontal-impact and rear-impact injury prevention, and a Poor rating in the side-impact test. The Wrangler Unlimited 4-door improves to Marginal in side-impact protection, though it has not been tested for small overlap frontal-impact performance.
It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes dual front airbags, antilock brakes with brake assist, hill-start assist, traction control with a special 4-Lo setting, stability control with electronic roll mitigation, and trailer sway control. Front-seat side-impact airbags are optional.
The main caveat is clear: crash-test performance is a weak point, especially for the standard two-door model, so you should weigh safety expectations carefully if you plan to use this as a family vehicle.
Should I buy a 2014 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.06% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 combines strong off-road ability with a surprisingly affordable entry price.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $16,555, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $15,610 average.
- It adds an upgraded sound system and more fresh editions to choose from.
The bottom line: If you want the lower price and are comfortable with the 2014’s rough-edged personality, this year makes sense. If you’d rather pay more for a bit more variety and a fresher-feeling setup, the 2015 is the better alternative.
