Summary
With 4,136 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,608, 29.8% of 2014 Jeep Wranglers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.

Why it stands out
The 2014 Jeep Wrangler stands out because it is built to go just about anywhere at just about any time, and it does so at a surprisingly affordable price. That combination makes it easy to understand why some drivers see it as brilliant: it is a rugged American icon with a clear focus on off-road ability and adventure.
That same focus also defines its tradeoffs. The Wrangler’s uncompromised off-roading capability requires all kinds of compromise during the daily drive, so it asks for constant attention behind the wheel and can be a poor fit for anyone who wants a relaxed commute. In other words, its appeal is strongest for buyers who value capability and character over comfort and convenience.

I am totally impressed with the Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited. It is more than I expected. The vehicle has a very new feeling and seems showroom fresh. The leather is still great smelling and looks new. The Jeep is easy to see out of, despite being a four door. The driving feels strong and stable and the visibility in all directions is easy. The controls are within easy reach and it has a great many cup holders and plug ins for electronics. This was a great purchase. I specifically wanted a Wrangler and I am very pleased. There are no disappointments.

Reviewed a 2014 Jeep Sport 4WD on May 3, 2014
This is the most fun vehicle I've ever driven. It has plenty of power to get around and enough to be fun off-road, but it is by no means fast. It takes a while to unzip the windows and put the top down, but it gets easier and quicker the more you do it. It brings a smile to my face every time I drive it. Off-roading with a 2" lift and 35" Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires, it was able to conquer most obstacles with ease. Modifications so far include Superlift 2" spacer lift, JKS adjustable track bars, Magnaflow exhaust, 315/75-16 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires, 16" Level8 wheels, Body Armor 4x4 side bars, Rugged Ridge tail lamp guards, and carpet removed and floor sprayed with truck bed liner.

How much does the 2014 Jeep Wrangler cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $15,603 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,603 |
| Year-Round High | $16,714 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,715 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.65% |
Prices have softened 6.65% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,126 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler a good car?
Yes — 4.62/5. It earns an expert rating of 7/10, and the model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its ruggedness, off-road capability, and fun driving experience. The review summary also points to strong power and a versatile feel, which fits a vehicle built around adventure rather than a relaxed commute.
Given the overview’s emphasis on off-road ability and character, this is the kind of vehicle that makes the most sense if you value capability over comfort. 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable, with repeated praise for ruggedness and trouble-free adventure use. The expert commentary also notes that customer complaints have dwindled since Jeep’s reboot in the early 2010s, which supports the idea that this model year is more settled than earlier versions.
The cost-effectiveness discussion adds that Jeep’s reboot helped reduce complaints, and it also notes that the Wrangler holds onto a good chunk of its value. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that durability and dependability can be overshadowed by higher fuel costs and the compromises that come with its off-road-first design.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Jeep Wrangler?
At 62.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, doors, roof components, and any signs of prior repair. Because this model is built around removable parts and off-road use, condition matters as much as mileage. You should also pay attention to how the vehicle drives on pavement, since the Wrangler’s daily-road behavior is a major part of the ownership tradeoff.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base Sport is stripped down, while higher trims add more equipment and off-road hardware. The Rubicon and Rubicon X stand out for their more serious trail-focused gear, and the Dragon Edition is described as a more heavily equipped special model.
- Powertrain: A 3.6-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque is standard, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic. It is rated at 18 mpg in combined driving.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes dual front airbags, antilock brakes with brake assist, hill-start assist, traction control with a special 4-Lo setting, stability control with electronic roll mitigation, and trailer sway control. Front-seat side-impact airbags are optional.
- Infotainment: Available tech includes a 6.5-inch color touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, and navigation. The model also offers a premium audio system and automatic climate control.
- Fuel efficiency: The Wrangler is rated at 18 mpg in combined driving, and a loaded Unlimited returned 17.1 mpg during a week of driving.
Which 2014 Jeep Wrangler trim should I buy?
The 2014 Jeep Wrangler is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Rubicon, Rubicon X, Dragon Edition.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the least expensive way into the Wrangler, and it makes sense if you want the core Jeep experience without paying for extra trail hardware. It still gives you the standard V6, 4-wheel drive, convertible top, removable doors, and folding windshield.
- Rubicon: This is the best-value trim if you want the Wrangler’s serious off-road capability. It adds the more advanced trail-focused hardware described in the expert content, making it the trim to target if you plan to use the Jeep the way it was intended.
- Rubicon X: This is the choice if you want the most aggressive factory off-road setup mentioned here. It adds a winch-ready steel front bumper, a steel rear bumper, and larger rock rails, so it suits buyers who want maximum trail readiness.
- Dragon Edition: This special edition is aimed at buyers who want a more distinctive, better-equipped Wrangler with a softer feel than the hardcore Rubicons. It is the most style-forward choice in this group.
Front-seat side-impact airbags are optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Jeep Wrangler?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.
- Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,126 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.65% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,603, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler's resale value?
The current average of $15,603 sits slightly below last year's $16,715.
That softer pricing can help you as a buyer now, but it also means a future seller may need to be realistic about expectations. The market has already moved down, so resale upside depends more on condition, mileage, and trim desirability than on broad price momentum.
Because the Wrangler still draws strong interest from buyers who want its image and capability, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than ordinary SUVs. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Jeep Wrangler safe?
The 2014 Jeep Wrangler earns a Good rating in the IIHS moderate overlap frontal-impact test, a Marginal rating in small overlap frontal-impact and rear-impact injury prevention, and a Poor rating in the side-impact test.
It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety equipment includes dual front airbags, antilock brakes with brake assist, hill-start assist, traction control with a special 4-Lo setting, stability control with electronic roll mitigation, and trailer sway control. Front-seat side-impact airbags are optional.
The crash-test results show a clear weakness in side-impact protection, and the expert commentary reinforces that this is not a strength of the vehicle. If safety is a top priority, you should pay especially close attention to the available equipment and the tradeoffs that come with the Wrangler’s removable-door design.
Should I buy a 2014 Jeep Wrangler or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.65% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It delivers standout off-road performance while staying relatively affordable.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $16,570, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $15,603 average.
- It adds an upgraded sound system and fresh editions.
The bottom line: If you want the lower entry price and the core Wrangler formula, the 2014 is the better value. If you are willing to pay more for a few updates and a slightly fresher take, the 2015 is the better alternative. For most price-sensitive buyers, the 2014 makes the stronger case.
