CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Honda Odyssey
overall

Summary
With 1,205 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,723, 30.4% of 2014 Honda Odysseys for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Honda Odyssey 4.45 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.83 / 10.
56.7% of 2014 Odyssey models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Honda Odyssey stands out for its broad competence. It is described as utterly capable in the city, in the suburbs, on the highway, and when taken to its limits, which speaks to a minivan that feels well-rounded rather than narrowly specialized. Honda’s approach here is presented as a refined version of the family-hauler formula, with safety, technology, performance, and comfort all working together to make the Odyssey feel like a highly complete package.
That balance is a big part of its appeal. The summary calls it the ultimate family hauler for the majority of Americans, and says there is little reason to choose another vehicle for shuttling kids unless heavy towing or travel to very remote places is required. Owner feedback reinforces the practical side of that reputation, pointing to a spacious interior and family-friendly features, along with comfort and ease of use. At the same time, some reviewers mention acceleration issues and vibration at certain speeds, so the Odyssey’s strengths are clear, but it is not entirely free of drawbacks.

I’ve been searching for an Odyssey since mine was totaled several months ago. When I test drove this one I immediately knew I would buy it. Nothing compares to the versatility and cargo room of a minivan. Road trips cross country are so fun in a van. Instant hotel on wheels.

Feature are nice on Touring model. Dual side doors open which is a plus. T V in middle is a plus. Cup holder was broken off, car has a smell to it. Under hood made a vibrating noise

The automatic doors are very nice, and allow for little children to easily handle their operation. The Hatchback is also motorized, but you have the option to manually open or close it. The Lane Departure and Front Collision warnings are great safety features. This car has some great rates on insurance as well. We get great gas mileage, and have tons of room to haul people or gear around.

Great minivan that lives up to its reputation. It drives smooth, runs well, good room inside the van for passengers.

Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey a good car?
Generally — the 2014 Honda Odyssey earns a 4.45/5 user rating and an 8.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Technology and Safety.
Owners repeatedly praise the spacious interior, family-friendly features, comfort, and ease of use. The overview also frames it as a highly complete family hauler, especially well suited to daily kid duty and broader all-around use. With 31.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey reliable?
Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable, family-friendly vehicle that many owners feel good about living with over time, especially because of its comfort and ease of use. The expert evaluation also describes it as a cost-effective choice with better-than-average long-term ownership value. Honda’s maintenance-friendly reputation is reinforced by the model’s practical ownership focus, and the overall picture suggests you should still pay close attention to condition and service history on used examples.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some listings may have been driven hard in family duty, so maintenance records matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda Odyssey?
At 56.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings at similar prices. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven wear, and any evidence that the van’s family-hauler life was especially demanding. Condition matters more than mileage alone on a vehicle like this.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the most affordable version, while higher trims add features such as power sliding side doors, keyless access with push-button start, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, a power tailgate, navigation, rear-seat entertainment, parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, and HondaVAC. The base trim leaves out many of the convenience and comfort upgrades that make the upper trims feel more complete.
- Powertrain: A 248-hp, 3.5-liter V6 with Variable Cylinder Management is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The setup is tuned for responsive everyday driving and improved fuel economy, with the van expected to return 19 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway.
- Safety package: Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering II body structure is paired with SmartVent side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Touring Elite adds a Blind Spot Information System.
- Infotainment: The LX includes Bluetooth calling and music streaming, hands-free text messaging, Pandora Internet radio, and a USB port. Higher trims add a touchscreen audio system, HondaLink connectivity and services, navigation, rear-seat DVD entertainment, an ultrawide rear-seat entertainment screen with HDMI technology, HD Radio, and a premium Surround Sound audio system.
- Fuel efficiency: The Odyssey is expected to get 19 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway, and the review notes a combined-driving average of 19.8 mpg during testing.
Which 2014 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?
The 2014 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Touring Elite.
Here's the short version:
- LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Odyssey experience with Bluetooth calling and music streaming, hands-free text messaging, Pandora Internet radio, and a USB port. It makes sense if you want the lowest purchase price and can live without the convenience and comfort upgrades found higher up.
- EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a strong mix of everyday convenience features, including triple-zone automatic climate control, a 10-way power driver’s seat, power sliding side doors, keyless access with push-button start, HondaLink, a touchscreen audio system, LaneWatch, and a universal garage door opener.
- EX-L: This trim is the sweet spot if you want a more upscale family hauler, since it adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, a power tailgate, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. It also lets you choose either navigation or rear-seat entertainment.
- Touring: Choose this if you want both navigation and rear-seat entertainment together, plus bigger wheels, fog lights, front and rear parking sensors, memory for the driver’s settings, and third-row sunshades.
- Touring Elite: This is the most feature-rich version, adding an ultrawide rear entertainment screen, premium Surround Sound audio, HD Radio, HID headlights, Blind Spot Information System, and HondaVAC.
The safety package is especially strong across the lineup, and the Touring Elite adds the blind spot system on top of the already extensive standard safety equipment.

What is the 2014 Honda Odyssey's resale value?
The current average of $10,754 sits slightly below last year's $11,581.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level rather than on market momentum alone. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than rougher, lower-spec vans.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey safe?
The 2014 Honda Odyssey earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS, with a top rating of Good in every assessment, including the small overlap frontal-impact test.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda’s safety package includes Advanced Compatibility Engineering II body structure, SmartVent side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Touring Elite trim adds a Blind Spot Information System.
Should I buy a 2014 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.14% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 stands out for its broad competence, with strong safety, technology, performance, and comfort.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,435, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,754 average.
- It brings more design flair while remaining a practical family tool.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the stronger buy because pricing has softened and the feature set is still very complete. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model with a bit more design flair, the 2015 is the alternative to compare.
