CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Honda Accord
overall

Summary
With 1,951 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,038.00, 27.0% of 2014 Honda Accords for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Honda Accord 4.94 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 9.17 / 10.
50.1% of 2014 Accord models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Honda Accord stands out because its materials, design details, and overall execution give the impression of a car that feels more upscale than its price suggests. That sense of value is a major part of its appeal: it comes across as a sedan that delivers a premium experience without asking buyers to pay premium-car money.
It is also presented as one of the best-selling sedans in America, with a case made that it deserves to be the best-selling sedan. That reputation helps explain why it remains so appealing to shoppers looking for a mainstream car with broad appeal and strong everyday usability.
Owner feedback reinforces that image, with praise for reliability, fuel efficiency, performance, a smooth ride, great safety features, and a comfortable interior. The main cautions center on the CVT transmission and the audio system, which some drivers feel could be better, but even with those concerns the Accord is still widely viewed as a strong value.

I was considering an Avalon, Maxima, Camry or an Accord. Those cars made my final cut. I test drove all of them, negotiated price with 4 different dealers, but the car offering the best value, defined as where price and quality meet, was the Accord. I chose the Sport Accord because it handled better than the EX-L which made the final-semi-final round of consideration. The Sport offered more for less. I didn't need or want a sun roof and while the upgraded technical goodies were appealing like the touch screen, satellite radio, right side mirror monitor, leather and push to start, they didn't make 6-7K more in price worth it in my view. I'm amazed at the power of the 189 hp Accord Sport. I was expecting far less prior to my test drive, thinking I'd have to upgrade to a V6 but was pleasantly surprised with the punch of this little pocket rocket engine. The Accord Sport has good curb appeal with those 18" rims, twin chrome exhausts and for less than a negotiated $23K out the door, c'mon! No other car even came close.

My Background: I took more than one year to buy new car and in between I was going through numerous reviews, Test Rides and friends experiences (Whoever bought any car brand in 1st week they were blown away but after some time you can see them back to reality). SUV or Car: In my purchase process I was first confused to go with Sedan or SUV. My daily Driving is 70 miles RT and compact crossover SUV failed to impress me in front of Midsize sedans so finally decided to go with Car. In SUV I was researching RAV4 or CRV and both had plus minuses but I really like how RAV4 came up with all new changes. I have 2002 Camry and I drove 100k+. In 2012 I was almost sure to buy Camry but as time goes by I took test ride of Nissan Altima 2013, Kia Optima 13, Sonata 13, Toyota Camry 13 and Accord 13. After major changes in Accord I finally decided to consider with Camry. Comparing apple to Apple Accord LX has same feature as Camry SE (e.g. Alloy wheel, Dealer price etc..) 1. Overall Quality, Performance, Instrument Panel and Design: When I compared Camry as long as interior design concerned, Camry is nowhere closer to Accord. Dashboard Design is awesome, Big screen is mind blowing (non touch screen though) but position and layout is very cool. 2. Comfort: I felt Both Cars are same (few analysts say Accord is better). Honda has more cabin space. 3. Features and Style: Style doesn’t have any measurement and it goes by individual perception. Accord has lots of bells and whistles, chrome plating looks cool and car style and ride quality is aggressive. New Accord looks is another factor to shift me from Camry. 4. Fuel Economy: Second best in midsize car and fortunately true. 5. Features & Accessories Quality: I am not expert but all new cars’ accessories looks good and Accord is not exception. 6. Car Height: My friend had 2012 Accord and I had really hard time to come out but in new accord it’s very convenient. 7. Safety and Resale Value: Accord is best in midsize segment if you see stats. 8. CVT: Few people love to complaint about reliability of CVT transmission. CVT makes ride smooth and fuel efficient. As long as reliability is concerned time will decide but looking at current trend Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Audi, Honda, Ford, Benz and many more are shifting towards CVT. Replacement is costly but as years goes by technology becomes complicated and expensive for simple solution. 9. Seat Comfort: I am 6' tall, Lot of people complained about comfort but I don’t have issue. Seat fabric and design is way better than Camry. Cons: 1. 60/40: In Accord Rear Seat not 60/40 split, never mind I don’t use that frequently. 2. Audio: Car Audio quality is good but not great. 3. Trunk space: Not impressed with layout as older cars has low bed, big opening and better shape to fit 3 check-in bags but new shape is not efficient even though Camry and Accord has biggest cargo space. 4. Reliability in log run: hmm when I went through car complaints, I saw lot of issues reported but ~90% complaints were related to Seat comfort and Audio connection in old Accords, Don’t worry and trust your luck. Even my Camry has engine down (May be I got lemon) still Honda and Toyota are very reliable cars at least KBB and JD Power says that. Final words: In current market Honda Accord offers best value for money, it has excellent features and feels like premium level car, it crushed all the competitors. Accord has more Pros than Cons. I will recommend Accord at anytime to my dear ones.

It’s an amazing car! Very cheap to maintain and gets every job done while feeling a little luxurious.

So far the car has been excellent value. I wouldnt want anymore features than what is offered already. I didnt want a cvt transmission so there isnt much to choose from unless you look into the luxury models.

If you find a listing below $11,412.76, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Honda Accord a good car?
Yes — 4.94/5. It also earns an expert rating of 9.17/10.
The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, performance, smooth ride, great safety features, and comfortable interior.
That lines up with the overview’s emphasis on upscale materials and broad everyday usability, so you’re looking at a sedan that feels more premium than its price suggests.

Is the 2014 Honda Accord reliable?
Owners rate it 4.94/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The powertrain is described as quiet and refined, with responsive CVT behavior in normal driving and quick adjustment when you ease off the throttle.
For cost-conscious ownership, the review also notes strong long-term dependability and reliability expectations, along with low ownership costs over the first five years.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the transmission and overall condition have been maintained properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda Accord?
At 49.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the car has any accident history or inconsistent service records. Focus on body condition, repair quality, and whether the car drives as cleanly as it should. Pay extra attention to the transmission behavior and the audio system, since those are the main owner concerns that show up in the feedback.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The LX is the most basic setup, while the Sport adds 18-inch wheels, fog lights, a rear lip spoiler, a chrome exhaust finisher, and a 10-way power driver’s seat. The EX adds LaneWatch blind-spot monitoring, SmartEntry with push-button start, a power sunroof, and a better sound system. The EX-L brings leather, heated front seats, memory settings, a premium sound system with touchscreen display, satellite radio, and HondaLink, while the Touring adds Adaptive Cruise Control and LED headlights.
- Powertrain: Most models use a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder with a CVT, while LX, Sport, and EX trims also offer a 6-speed manual. The Sport version is rated at 189 hp. A 278-hp 3.5-liter V6 is optional on EX-L and standard on Touring, and fuel economy ranges from 24 mpg city to 36 mpg highway depending on transmission choice.
- Safety package: SmartVent side impact airbags for the front seats, a reversing camera, and ACE II body structure are standard. LaneWatch is included on EX, while Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning are included on EX-L and Touring. Rear parking assist sensors can be installed by dealers.
- Infotainment: The more affordable trims cover Bluetooth, music streaming, and text messaging. EX-L adds a premium sound system with a touchscreen display, satellite radio, and HondaLink connected services. Navigation is available only as a factory option on EX-L.
- Fuel efficiency: The 4-cylinder setup returns 24 mpg city to 36 mpg highway depending on transmission choice. The V6 is rated at 21/34 mpg, for a combined 26 mpg. In testing, the Accord Sport returned 27.9 mpg, which was 1.1 mpg short of its official combined estimate of 29 mpg.
Which 2014 Honda Accord trim should I buy?
The 2014 Honda Accord is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, Touring.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LX gives you the essentials, but it skips the sportier styling, upgraded audio, SmartEntry, and the more advanced driver-assistance features found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The EX is the best balance for many shoppers because it adds LaneWatch, SmartEntry with push-button start, a power sunroof, and a better sound system without jumping all the way to luxury pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The Touring is the most fully equipped gas model, adding Adaptive Cruise Control and LED headlights on top of the EX-L’s comfort and tech upgrades.
The safety package steps up meaningfully as you move from EX to EX-L and Touring, so those trims are the ones to target if driver-assistance features matter most to you.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Honda Accord?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,906 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.67% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 49.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,412.76, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Honda Accord's resale value?
The current average of $12,046 sits slightly below last year's $12,251.
That mild decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For future resale, the key is that the Accord still has broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction, both of which support demand over time. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintenance records clean, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.94/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Honda Accord safe?
The Accord earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick + rating from IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety package includes SmartVent side impact airbags for the front seats, a reversing camera, and ACE II body structure. LaneWatch is included on EX, while Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning are included on EX-L and Touring. Rear parking assist sensors are dealer-installed, and the review notes that Honda does not offer a traditional blind-spot system on this model.
Should I buy a 2014 Honda Accord or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 49.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.67% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.94/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It combines upscale materials with broad everyday usability.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $13,386, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $12,046 average.
- It emphasizes dependable service and broad family-sedan appeal.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the stronger buy because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for the next model year’s slightly newer positioning, the 2015 is the cleaner alternative for price-insensitive shoppers.
