CarGurus Analysis: 2014 GMC Terrain

Summary
With 822 currently listed for sale and an average price of $8,012, 29.1% of 2014 GMC Terrain listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 GMC Terrain 4.71 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2014 GMC Terrain stands out as a compact SUV that blends a roomy cabin with a comfortable, easygoing driving character. It was part of the first-generation Terrain, which launched in 2010, and by 2014 it had earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. That combination of space, comfort, and safety helps explain why it appealed to buyers looking for a practical used SUV with a more premium feel than many rivals.
What makes the 2014 Terrain especially distinctive is its available 3.6-liter V6 engine, which replaced the problematic 3.0-liter V6 in 2013 and produced 301 horsepower. For shoppers considering this generation, that engine is the one to seek out, since the first-generation Terrain’s 2.4-liter four-cylinder and earlier 3.0-liter V6 were both associated with serious reliability issues. The 2014 model also offered front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive, and the Terrain SLT trim added touches such as leather seats and remote start.
At the same time, the 2014 GMC Terrain is not without compromises. The first-generation Terrain’s four-cylinder and 3.0-liter V6 engines are best avoided, and the model’s cargo space was not class-leading. Even so, for buyers who value a comfortable ride, a spacious interior, and the stronger V6, the 2014 Terrain can be an appealing and good-value choice.

Reviewed a 2014 GMC SLE2 AWD on Feb 10, 2015
The stability and traction control combine with the AWD to make this a very good handling and surefooted vehicle. The high strength steel frame and front, side, and head curtain airbags give a good feeling of safety as well. The mileage is good too, so fuel costs aren't too high. Plenty of room for me (6'5") and the rest of the family when we go on trips- I would recommend it!

| Current Average Price | $8,021 |
| Year-Round Low | $8,021 |
| Year-Round High | $8,678 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $8,613 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.88% |

There are 813 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2014 GMC Terrain a good car?
Yes — the 2014 GMC Terrain earns a 4.71/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction.
Owners commonly praise its spacious cabin, smooth handling, and good value for money. Comfort, economy, and the sound system also come up often as positives, and the Terrain’s roomy, easygoing character fits well if you want a practical compact SUV with a more premium feel. If you’re shopping for a comfortable daily driver with available all-wheel drive and a family-friendly layout, this model year lines up well with that use case.
With 30.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful chance to find a competitive offer.
Is the 2014 GMC Terrain reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable, comfortable, and trouble-free in everyday use. The positive comments around comfort, economy, and overall satisfaction suggest that long-term ownership can be rewarding when you choose the right example. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the model’s general appeal and more about making sure you avoid a poorly maintained or incident-heavy vehicle.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 GMC Terrain?
At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and ownership history before you commit. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior repair work, and whether the vehicle has been maintained consistently.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 GMC Terrain?
This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 813 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.88% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $8,021, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 GMC Terrain's resale value?
The current average of $8,021 sits slightly below last year's $8,613.
That softer pricing suggests the model has become more accessible for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to stay competitive on price to move a used example quickly. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can help protect your position when it’s time to resell. A clean history and strong overall presentation matter more when the market is already leaning lower.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.88% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest balance of value, comfort, and owner satisfaction, the 2014 is the better path to focus on, especially if you can find a clean, well-maintained example at or below the current average price. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can widen your search to nearby years, but you should still prioritize condition, accident history, and maintenance over chasing the lowest sticker price.
