Is the 2014 GMC Acadia a good car?

Yes — the 2014 GMC Acadia earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its safety, roomy interior, comfort, luxury feel, and smooth ride, which fits the Acadia’s role as a plush three-row SUV for family trips. The overview also points to a semi-luxury personality and broad versatility, so you’re looking at a model that aims to balance space, comfort, and a more upscale feel than a basic family hauler.

Is the 2014 GMC Acadia reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with drivers repeatedly highlighting comfort, safety, and a roomy cabin that works well for family use. The expert evaluation also describes it as a pleasant choice for highway driving, which supports the idea that it can be a solid long-term companion if you value steady, everyday usability.

GM’s maintenance plan includes scheduled checkups, oil changes, and tire rotation, which is a helpful ownership perk for the early years. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some examples may bring higher upkeep concerns if prior maintenance was inconsistent.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 GMC Acadia?

At 58.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and signs of prior bodywork or electrical issues, since the best used Acadia is the one that has been cared for consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Acadia starts with a more basic SLE-1, while higher trims add more upscale touches and equipment; the base trim also misses some safety equipment that appears on pricier versions.
• Powertrain: It uses a 3.6-liter V6 with 288 hp and a 6-speed automatic, with front- or all-wheel drive available; the engine is modern enough for decent efficiency, but the transmission and around-town driving feel are less polished.
• Safety package: OnStar with automatic 911 assistance and a backup camera are standard, while forward-collision alert and lane-departure warning are optional on SLT-1 and SLT-2 and standard on Denali; blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert are standard only on SLT-2 and Denali.
• Infotainment: The system is fast and easy to use, with a reconfigurable home screen, Bluetooth streaming, Pandora access, HD radio, USB connectivity, navigation with live traffic, and voice recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: It is rated at 16 mpg in the city and averaged close to 23 mpg highway on a long drive.

Which 2014 GMC Acadia trim should I buy?

The 2014 GMC Acadia is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE-1, SLE-2, SLT-1, SLT-2.

Here's the short version:

• SLE-1: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Acadia, but it leaves out some of the more desirable safety and comfort equipment found higher up the range.
• SLE-2: This is the best-value choice if you want a more complete Acadia without jumping too far up the price ladder, and it adds enough equipment to make the SUV feel more family-friendly.
• SLT-1: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for additional convenience and safety content over the SLE trims.
• SLT-2: This is the most fully equipped mainstream trim, and it’s the one to target if you want the most safety tech and the richest feature set short of Denali-level luxury.

The safety package is not evenly spread across the lineup, so if advanced driver-assistance features matter to you, it’s worth moving up from the base trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 GMC Acadia?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 723 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.55% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,866, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 GMC Acadia's resale value?

The current average of $7,866 sits slightly below last year's $8,893.

That softer pricing suggests the Acadia has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right number today. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain the vehicle well, you may be able to preserve value better than a buyer who pays too close to the top of the range.

Demand should remain supported by the Acadia’s roomy cabin, comfort, and family-friendly reputation. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 GMC Acadia safe?

The 2014 GMC Acadia earns top ratings from the government and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Acadia’s standout safety feature is a front center airbag that deploys from the driver’s seat to help cushion impact between front occupants in a side collision. OnStar with automatic 911 assistance and stolen-vehicle tracking is standard, as is a backup camera.

Forward-collision alert and lane-departure warning are optional on SLT-1 and SLT-2 and standard on Denali. Blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert are standard only on SLT-2 and Denali, so safety equipment varies meaningfully by trim.

Should I buy a 2014 GMC Acadia or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.55% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Expert or safety highlight specific to this year: it combines a roomy three-row layout with a front center airbag and a strong expert safety score.

The bottom line: The 2014 Acadia makes sense if you want a comfortable, upscale-feeling three-row SUV and you’re shopping the used market for value. If you’re price-sensitive, the softer pricing and decent deal share make this a reasonable year to target, but you should be selective about condition and trim because safety and convenience features vary.

How does the 2014 GMC Acadia compare to the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse?

Our experts score the 2014 GMC Acadia 7/10 and the 2014 Chevrolet Traverse 7.7/10.

The Traverse is the slightly stronger value play on paper, with a lower average used price and a better expert score. The Acadia counters with a more upscale feel, a stronger safety score, and a bit more market inventory to shop from. If you want the more premium personality, the Acadia is the better fit; if you want the lower-cost sibling with similar fundamentals, the Traverse is worth a look.
