CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Ford Mustang

Summary
With 1,202 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,894.00, 28.5% of 2014 Ford Mustangs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Ford Mustang 4.86 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7 / 10.
59.8% of 2014 Mustang models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Ford Mustang stands out as the culmination of five decades of engineering development, and it is presented as the best the Pony car has ever been. That long-running evolution is part of its appeal: it blends the Mustang’s classic identity with a level of refinement that makes it feel more complete than a nostalgia act. Buyers drawn to the Mustang’s heritage will find that this version still leans into the car’s traditional character while benefiting from years of development.
Its strongest calling card is performance. Under hard acceleration, the 5.0-liter engine pulls eagerly deep into redline territory, and it does so without a significant amount of rear-end squat. That combination suggests a car that feels lively and composed when driven hard, which helps explain why it remains attractive to enthusiasts. At the same time, the Mustang is not without compromises, and owner feedback points to cramped back seats and smaller trunk space in some models as practical drawbacks.

Amazing car, very fun to drive with just enough amount of power. Small and compact which makes it easy to maneuver. This is my daily driver and I love it and yes a V8 has superior performance but I dont race so this is perfect.

| Year-Round High | $15,953.63 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,445 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +2.65% |
Prices are up 2.65% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 1,209 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $14,281.86, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — it earns a 4.86/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Drivers consistently praise the powerful performance, classic design, and thrilling driving experience. The strong engine character and handling also come through in owner feedback, while the Mustang’s heritage and refined feel help it stand out for buyers who want a traditional pony car with more polish.
The overview frames it as a culmination of decades of development, so you’re looking at a car that leans into its classic identity without feeling like a pure nostalgia piece. That makes it appealing if you want style and performance in the same package.
28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter to enthusiasts: strong performance, classic design, and a driving experience people enjoy enough to keep recommending. The expert review also describes the Mustang and Camaro as above average for dependability.
The cost-effectiveness notes also point to above-average dependability and solid residual values, which supports the case for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the car’s appeal and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not driven hard without proper care.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Ford Mustang?
At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven enthusiastically. Pay close attention to signs of wear in the drivetrain, suspension, and interior, since the Mustang’s appeal often overlaps with harder use. Condition matters a lot here, because the best examples will feel tight, clean, and well cared for.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base car is lighter on features, while higher trims add leather upholstery, a premium audio setup, and more convenience equipment.
- Powertrain: The standard V6 is the efficiency play, while the GT’s 5.0-liter V8 delivers much stronger performance but uses more fuel and requires premium gas.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control, hill-start assist with the manual transmission, and 4 airbags. More advanced driver-assistance features are not included.
- Infotainment: Standard SYNC AppLink is included, and available upgrades add a touchscreen, navigation, SiriusXM real-time traffic information, HD radio, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 with a 6-speed manual is rated at 31 mpg on the highway, while the GT is rated at 15 mpg city and 26 mpg highway with the manual transmission, or 18 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined with the automatic.
Which 2014 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2014 Ford Mustang is offered in 4 trim levels: base, V6 Premium, GT, GT Premium.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: You get the essentials, but you miss out on leather upholstery, the premium audio setup, and the more upscale convenience features found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The V6 Premium is the value pick if you want the Mustang experience with added comfort features like leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and premium audio.
- Premium/top trim: The GT Premium is the most appealing choice if you want the V8 performance plus the richer feature set, including navigation, upgraded brakes, and more available convenience equipment.
The safety package remains fairly basic across the lineup, so you should not expect advanced driver-assistance tech even on higher trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Ford Mustang?
This is a seller’s market, so you should shop selectively and be ready to move when you find a strong example.
- Deal availability: 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,209 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.65% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 61.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,281.86, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $15,854 sits slightly above last year's $15,445.
That upward move suggests the market still values this model year, especially for well-kept examples with desirable trims or strong equipment. If you buy carefully, you may have a better chance of holding value than you would with a less sought-after sports coupe.
The limited supply of good deals also supports pricing discipline, which can help sellers later if the car remains in clean condition. Strong enthusiast demand tends to keep attention on the best examples, especially those with the right trim and maintenance history.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang safe?
The 2014 Ford Mustang Convertible earns five-star rollover protection from NHTSA.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control, hill-start assist with the manual transmission, and 4 airbags. The safety content also notes the absence of more advanced systems such as blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning.
That means you should not expect modern driver-assistance coverage here, even if the core safety hardware is present. For a used buyer, the biggest safety takeaway is to verify condition and equipment carefully, since the car’s safety tech is relatively basic by current standards.
Should I buy a 2014 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 28.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
