Is the 2014 Ford Fusion a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Ford Fusion earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its sleek design, reliability, high fuel economy, and spaciousness. That lines up well with the Fusion’s use case as a midsize sedan that feels more polished and more upscale than many rivals, while still staying value-oriented. The market also shows 27.0% of listings as good or great deals, which supports the case for shopping carefully and comparing examples.

Is the 2014 Ford Fusion reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to reliability, being trouble-free, and a car you can count on over the long term. The expert drive notes also describe the Fusion as a value that holds its own in daily use, with smooth transitions and confident operation. The Hybrid’s cost-effectiveness notes add that it has held its value quite well overall in the used market, which is another encouraging sign for ownership confidence.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is choosing a poorly maintained example with hidden wear or unresolved issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Ford Fusion?

At 55.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on how the interior controls, brakes, steering feel, and tech features operate in real use, since those are the areas where condition and upkeep can matter most. If you’re considering a Hybrid, pay extra attention to how smoothly it transitions between electric and gasoline power.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Titanium trim sits above the SE and the new-for-2014 S trim, and it adds a more upscale feel with features such as active park assist, heated and ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, navigation, inflatable rear seatbelts, and the Driver Assistance Package. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you without the richer equipment and driver aids that make the Fusion feel more premium.
• Powertrain: The Hybrid pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery, sending power through a CVT. It emphasizes efficiency and smooth, immediate response more than outright speed.
• Safety package: The Driver Assistance Package includes lane-keep assist and blind-spot alert. Standard safety equipment also includes eight airbags, inflatable rear seatbelts, traction and stability control, blind-spot alert, 4-wheel disc brakes, adaptive cruise control, lane keep, SOS Post Crash, and 911 Assist. Some of the more advanced features are tied to higher trims or packages.
• Infotainment: The Titanium trim can include navigation, a 12-speaker Sony audio system, and touchscreen-based controls. The system is easy to read and navigate, but the interface can feel overly complex and distracting.
• Fuel efficiency: The Hybrid was rated at 44 mpg city, 41 highway, and 42 combined after the update described in the expert notes.

Which 2014 Ford Fusion trim should I buy?

The 2014 Ford Fusion is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Fusion’s styling and core driving character at the lowest cost, but it will be the most stripped-down choice.
• SE: This is the trim most buyers should start with because it should balance equipment and value better than the base model without pushing you into the highest-priced version.
• Titanium: This is the best choice if you want the most upscale Fusion experience, with the richest feature content and the strongest tech and convenience story.

The safety content also points to a broad suite of available driver-assistance and crash-avoidance features, so it’s worth checking whether a given car has the packages you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Ford Fusion?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile examples.

• Deal availability: 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 926 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.38% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,572, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Ford Fusion's resale value?

The current average of $7,682 sits slightly below last year's $7,950.

That decline suggests the Fusion is still in a buyer-friendly phase, which can help you if you’re shopping now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the model’s strong owner satisfaction and value-oriented reputation help support demand. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, you should be able to stay competitive in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Ford Fusion safe?

The 2014 Ford Fusion earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and three-star ratings in front-seat side crash tests. It also earns Good ratings from IIHS in all tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Fusion’s safety suite includes eight airbags, inflatable rear seatbelts, traction and stability control, blind-spot alert, 4-wheel disc brakes, adaptive cruise control, lane keep, SOS Post Crash, and 911 Assist. The Driver Assistance Package adds lane-keep assist and blind-spot alert. The main caveat is that the NHTSA side-crash result for front-seat occupants is weaker than the rest of the crash-test record.

Should I buy a 2014 Ford Fusion or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 27.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.38% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its fresh post-redesign feel and strong tech-forward value.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,232, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $7,682 average.
• It adds a more striking design and a broader overall polish.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter starting point. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year with a slightly more refined presentation, the 2015 is worth a look. Price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2014, while shoppers prioritizing the newest available version may prefer the next year.

How does the 2014 Ford Fusion compare to the 2014 Toyota Camry?

Our experts score the 2014 Ford Fusion 7.8/10 and the 2014 Toyota Camry 7.5/10.

The Fusion gives you a much lower average used price and a more engaging driving character, while the Camry counters with slightly better fuel economy and a larger pool of accident-free listings. If you want the more stylish, tech-forward sedan at a lower price, the Fusion has the edge. If you want a more conventional midsize sedan with stronger city and highway MPG, the Camry is the safer bet.
